56 results about "Fractional bandwidth" patented technology

Fractional bandwidth is the bandwidth of a device divided by its center frequency. E.g., a passband filter that has a bandwidth of 3MHz with center frequency 8 MHz will have a fractional bandwidth of 3/8.

Ultra-wide band (UWB) artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) metamaterials for electrically thin antennas and arrays

This disclosure demonstrates a new class of Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) AMC with very large fractional bandwidth (>100%) even at lower frequencies (<1 GHz). This new UWB AMC is enabled by recognizing that any AMC must be an antenna in order to accept the incident radiation into the circuit. Therefore, by using UWB antenna design features, one can make wide band AMCs. Additionally, by manipulation of the UWB AMC element design, a 1 / frequency dependence can be obtained for instantiating the benefits of a quarter wave reflection over a large UWB bandwidth with a single physical thickness.

Systems and methods for providing quality of service (QoS) in an environment that does not normally support QoS features

Systems and methods for providing fractional bandwidth communication channels in classes of service that do not normally support these types of channels. In one embodiment, a method comprises receiving one or more frames, wherein each frame contains non-QoS header information, classifying the one or more frames based on the corresponding non-QoS header information and scheduling delivery of the one or more frames based upon corresponding frame classifications, wherein frames in classifications corresponding to QoS circuits are scheduled in a manner that meets QoS requirements associated with the QoS circuits. When the frames are classified, they are forwarded to dynamically allocated queues corresponding to the respective classifications. Frames are scheduled for delivery from the queues according to a modified bin-filling algorithm that is designed to meet the QoS requirements of the respective circuits. This method may be implemented, for example, in a Fibre Channel Class 2 or Class 3 fabric.

System to provide fractional bandwidth data communications services

A system to provide fractional bandwidth data transmission includes a network processor, physical layer device, or link layer device {“data device”) and a plurality of link layer devices that are coupled to a plurality of input-output ports. The link layer devices are coupled in a serial daisy chain fashion and pass data via a plurality of data channels. The first linked layer device is coupled to the data device and receives data therefrom and the last linked layer device is coupled to the data device and transmits data thereto forming a ring network that includes all of the link layer devices and the data device. Data received from the data device is contained in data packets that contain a destination identifier and the data. Each link layer device receives input data packets and separates the data packets based on the destination identifier contained therein. Data packets having a destination identifier corresponding to one of the plurality of input-output ports coupled to that particular linked layer device are diverted to the identified input-output port. The remaining data, and any data generated by that link layer device, is provided to the next adjacent down-stream link layer device. Data flow control is provided in an upstream direction from one link layer device to the next adjacent up-stream link layer device as a plurality of status indicators that correspond to the plurality of data channels. Each link layer device is responsive to the plurality of status indicators by not transmitting data on data channels having a corresponding status indicator indicative that no data is to be transmitted.

FMCW Automotive Radar Incorporating Modified Slow Time Processing Of Fine Range-Doppler Data

A novel and useful system and method by which radar angle and range resolution are significantly improved without increasing complexity in critical hardware parts. A multi-pulse methodology is described in which each pulse contains partial angular and range information consisting of a portion of the total CPI bandwidth, termed multiband chirp. Each chirp has significantly reduced fractional bandwidth relative to monoband processing. Each chirp contains angular information that fills only a portion of the ‘virtual array’, while the full virtual array information is contained across the CPI. This is done using only a single transmission antenna per pulse, thus significantly simplifying MIMO hardware realization, referred to as antenna-multiplexing (AM). Techniques for generating the multiband chirps as well as receiving and generating improved fine range-Doppler data maps. A windowing technique deployed in the transmitter as opposed to the receiver is also disclosed.

Method and apparatus for RF input coupling for inductive output tubes and other emission gated devices

An input circuit of a microwave amplification tube achieves improved instantaneous bandwidth. By directly coupling the transmission line carrying a modulating radio frequency signal to a control grid, a low-Q input circuit is created that increases the fractional bandwidth of the system. A resonant cavity may be used to generate a voltage across the gap between the cathode and the control grid. Alternative geometries are presented whereby the electron beam is emitted from a cathode connected either to the center conductor of the transmission line or to the outer conductor of the transmission line. Alternatively, the electric field of the radio-frequency signal propagating through the transmission line may be used to create a voltage across the gap between the cathode and the control grid without using a resonant cavity. Likewise, alternative geometries are presented by which the electron beam is emitted from a cathode connected either to the center conductor or to the outer conductor of the transmission line.

Folded Antenna

An antenna element 1 is formed such that a plurality of turning parts 13, 15, 17 are formed by being turned back in zigzag in parallel to a ground conductor film 2 while extending perpendicularly thereto and the lengths of segments 12, 14, 16, 18 between the turning parts are shorter on a side of the ground conductor film 2 (a side of a feeding part 4) and increase gradually as the segments are away from the ground conductor film 2. The turning parts of the antenna element 1 are formed such that the antenna resonates at two or more frequency bands, and has a fractional bandwidth of 4% or more of its frequency in a first frequency band and a fractional bandwidth of 15% or more of its frequency in a second frequency band by adjusting the lengths L1, L2 and L3 of respective segments and the intervals d1, d2 and d3 between adjacent segments. Consequently, a wideband antenna is realized in two or more multi-frequency bands, for example 2.4 to 2.5 GHz and 5 to 6 GHz, by using a single folded antenna.

Center frequency control of an integrated phase rotator band-pass filter using VCO coarse trim bits

A phase rotator for a Cartesian feedback power amplifier in a transmitter final stage contains an integrated voltage controlled tunable resonant circuit accomplishing band-pass filtering at a center frequency selected by local oscillator (LO) coarse trim control signals. The voltage controlled tunable resonant circuit attenuates input signal harmonic levels at large fractional bandwidths for the downconverter in the feedback LO path without setting a large number of poles in the band-pass filter. The binary-weighted course trim value for controlling the gain of the LO sets a bank of voltage-variable capacitors (VVC) in the voltage controlled tunable resonant circuit to control the center frequency in each of two 2-pole band-pass filters, creating a composite 4-pole band-pass filter at the input of a poly-phase quadrature generation circuit in the feedback LO path.
