Hands-free is an adjective describing equipment that can be used without the use of hands (for example via voice commands) or, in a wider sense, equipment which needs only limited use of hands, or for which the controls are positioned so that the hands are able to occupy themselves with another task (such as driving) without needing to hunt far afield for the controls.

Handsfree system and mobile phone

In a handsfree system, when a mobile phone receives an incoming voice call from a mobile phone network while data communicating with a device that is an in-vehicle device (handsfree device), the mobile phone is automatically changed from a handset mode to a handsfree mode. Thereby, immediately after the mobile phone receives an incoming voice call from the mobile phone network, the mobile phone can be automatically changed from a handset mode to a handsfree mode without any user's operation.

A wireless phone based system to accommodate users of wireless phones for providing information as to the location of certain services such as gasoline stations, movie theatres, drug stores, etc., includes the utilization of a GPS receiver and a wireless phone, with the wireless phone adapted to call a predetermined number requesting the desired service and providing the location of the cellular phone. In one embodiment, the GPS receiver is co-located with the wireless phone in a car, with the wireless phone being carried in a handsfree cradle having a number of service-request buttons, such that depression of a service-request button activates the wireless phone through its bus structure to call a predetermined number and provide the identity of the caller along with the caller's location. In a further embodiment, a single button, located on the phone or on the handsfree cradle, is utilized to cause the wireless phone to dial a concierge service, in which the concierge service has operators and a database, such that the operator can either direct the caller to whatever service the caller desires or take care of the request, with the operator having been apprised of the location of the wireless phone. This allows the operator to key in the latitude and longitude of the wireless phone and access the database of services both as to the type of service and as to the location of the closest service provider.

Bluetooth communicator, short range wireless communicator and program

While a handsfree device being multi-profile compatible is maintaining a connection for a handsfree profile (HFP) with a mobile phone handset, the handsfree device cuts off the connection for the HFP based on a user's operation. After cutting off, the handsfree device establishes a connection for a dial-up network profile (DUN), and subsequently transmits a request for a connection for the HFP while maintaining the connection for the DUN. Subsequently, the handsfree device determines whether the handset is multi-profile compatible according to the response to the request from the handset. Based on the determination that the handset is multi-profile compatible, the handsfree device executes the processes for the HFP while maintaining the connection for the DUN.

Handsfree device and mobile phone handset

By executing a ring-tone determination program and so on, a handsfree device transmits range information to a mobile phone handset connected with the handsfree device. When the handsfree device receives information of frequency ranges used by ring-tone signals in the handset, it makes a determination according to the received information. If the received information indicates that the handset is compatible with the range information, it transmits a signal for directing not to restrict a frequency range. If the received information indicates that the handset is not compatible with the range information, it transmits either of a signal for directing to restrict a frequency range or a denial signal denying the reception of ring-tone sound, depending on a setting in the handsfree device.
