Image processing

There is described an image processing method in which a scene is repeatedly imaged to form a series of input images. For at least a subset of the input images, a colour calibration procedure is conducted which populates a foreground colour histogram with the frequency of occurrence of colour values in a stencil area of the input image, and populates a background colour histogram with the frequency of occurrence of colour values outside of the stencil portion of the input image. For at least a subset of the input images, a colour replacement procedure is conducted which updates the stencil area based on a determination, from the colour values of pixels within the input image, of likelihood values representing the likelihood of pixels belonging to an image area of interest, the likelihood value for each colour value being determined from a combination of the foreground and background colour histograms, replaces the original colour values of pixels within the updated stencil area of the input image with replacement colour values, and displays the image on which colour replacement processing has been conducted. In this way, a stencil area is determined based on foreground/background histogramming, and used both to define an area to which colour replacement processing is to be conducted, and also an area for use in further populating the colour histograms to calibrate the colour replacement processing.

System and method for supplying power to a device during battery replacement

A system and method are provided for supplying a specified minimum level of power to a laptop computer or other device during a battery replacement procedure. In the system, a first battery has a plurality of terminal pairs, each terminal pair comprising positive and negative terminals. The system further includes a battery interface comprising two pairs of contact points, the contact points of each pair adapted to engage corresponding terminals of one of the terminal pairs to couple power from the first battery to the laptop. The power provided to the device by either of the terminal pairs is sufficient to supply the specified minimum level of power. A structure is configured to selectively support the first battery in both normal operating and battery exchange positions, with respect to the battery interface, so that the terminals of at least one terminal pair are always engaged with contact points of a contact pair when the first battery is in the normal operating or the exchange position, or is being moved therebetween. A second battery, substantially identical to the first battery, is adapted for placement with respect to the structure to bring terminals of a terminal pair of the second battery into engagement with contacts of one of the contact pairs, when the first battery is in the battery exchange position.

Cache memory having enhanced performance and security features

A cache memory having enhanced performance and security feature is provided. The cache memory includes a data array storing a plurality of data elements, a tag array storing a plurality of tags corresponding to the plurality of data elements, and an address decoder which permits dynamic memory-to-cache mapping to provide enhanced security of the data elements, as well as enhanced performance. The address decoder receives a context identifier and a plurality of index bits of an address passed to the cache memory, and determines whether a matching value in a line number register exists. The line number registers allow for dynamic memory-to-cache mapping, and their contents can be modified as desired. Methods for accessing and replacing data in a cache memory are also provided, wherein a plurality of index bits and a plurality of tag bits at the cache memory are received. The plurality of index bits are processed to determine whether a matching index exists in the cache memory and the plurality of tag bits are processed to determine whether a matching tag exists in the cache memory, and a data line is retrieved from the cache memory if both a matching tag and a matching index exist in the cache memory. A random line in the cache memory can be replaced with a data line from a main memory, or evicted without replacement, based on the combination of index and tag misses, security contexts and protection bits. User-defined and / or vendor-defined replacement procedures can be utilized to replace data lines in the cache memory.
