Systems and methods for monitoring building health

A building monitoring computer system for monitoring building integrity may be provided. Various types of sensors may be embedded throughout or within certain portions of different types of building or construction material making up the building, such as within roofing, foundation, or structural materials. The sensors may be in wireless communication with a home controller. The sensors may be water, moisture, temperature, vibration, or other types of sensors, and may detect unexpected or abnormal conditions within the home. The sensors and / or home controller may transmit alerts to a mobile device of the home owner associated with the unexpected condition, and / or that remedial actions may be required to repair the home or mitigate further damage to the home. The sensor data may also be communicated to an insurance provider remote server to facilitate the insurance provider communicating insurance-related recommendations, updating insurance policies, or preparing insurance claims for review for home owners.

Method and system for detecting and deterring animal intruders

In a system for deterring intruding animals in a surveillance space or surveillance area, one or more detectors monitor the surveillance space or area for the presence of intruding animals. Each detector generates a signal that is analyzed by a processor in order to determine whether any intruding animals are located in the space under surveillance. When an intruding animal is detected, the processor determines an azimuth and elevation of the intruding animal. The processor then aims deterrence devices at the intruding animal and activates the aimed deterrence devices.

Exterior wall sealing system

A system for sealing the gaps that occur along the perimeter of a building envelope, particularly along with installation of an exterior finish system channel, or screed, as occurs in the installation and application of stucco. It is common to have gaps occur between the channel, base plate, and foundation of the building envelope. The system utilizes a foam sealing element in combination with the channel, caulking, a fiberglass netting that is installed along the bottom of the channel and the face of the foundation, and, an adhesive sealant that seals and adheres the fiberglass netting to the foundation. The system includes several embodiments for use in either new construction or as an aftermarket product.

Combined sill seal and termite shield (SSTS)

Sill seal and termite shield (SSTS) devices are disclosed. The SSTS devices for residential housing are shown for poured concrete, masonry block, and frost protected shallow foundations. The polymeric foam pad of the SSTS device seals the rough surface atop the foundation wall. For the termite shield function, the SSTS devices use a metallic web—either of foil or of an impenetrable screen—or a nonmetallic web—either of plastic sheet or of impenetrable scrim. The termite shield or barrier layer is shown as adjacent to a weatherproofing membrane or as an interior layer of an polymeric laminate weatherproofing membrane. Hot melt adhesives attach the foam pad to the weatherproofing membrane and, where applicable, the barrier layer to the weatherproofing membrane. Pressure-activated, hot melt adhesives attach the SSTS device to the sill plate. A release sheet is applied forming a peel-and-stick device.

Animal guard

An animal guard with a multitude of rotatable elements that can be securely mounted on a generally vertical or horizontal structure is disclosed. The rotatable elements may be of varying shapes and are designed to provide an unsteady footing for animals attempting to cross the object to continue travel along the structure. In accordance with one embodiment, the animal guard is configured to surround a vertically-extending structure. A series of hollow rotatable elements, or "spinners", are provided with a hole formed at opposing longitudinal ends. The spinners are bifurcated into two generally equal halves that attach together. A guard plate is mounted to surround the structure and has a series of cross arm brackets which extend through the end holes of the spinners to serve as end axles for rotation and to position the spinners around the circumference of the structure. A support means secures the location of the guard plate and spinners and couples the guard plate to the structure. Another embodiment of the animal guard inhibits animal passage along generally horizontal structures, such as cables, lines and wires. A series of hollow rotatable spinners are provided with a hole formed at opposing longitudinal ends. The spinners are bifurcated into two generally equal halves that attach together to secure the spinners around a horizontal structure. End shields are configured with a hole extending laterally therethrough to mount the end shields onto an end section of the spinners; one end shield is positioned at each of the opposite ends of a series of spinners. A gripping means is positioned adjacent to the end shields at the opposite end of the series of spinners to grip the horizontal structure and hold the end shields and spinners at fixed positions horizontally along the line.

Anti-bird roosting device

An anti-bird roosting device for protecting an area, comprising at least a pair of cooperating base elements mounted on the area to be protected, and a plurality of projecting spikes, supported on the base elements and projecting away therefrom into a space above the area to be protected. The spikes are provided in a pattern of interspersed combinations of vertical, obtuse and acute angle-forming projections, in a high spike density that prevents roosting in the protected space. Thus, each point in the area to be protected is defended by more than one spike, each spike coming from a different direction, so as to cross-defend each other, creating a perimeter envelope defense of the air volume surrounding the base elements. Each device is easily and inexpensively prepared as a continuous mesh, whose dimensions can be constructed in standard sizes or in accordance with the needs of the user. The element diameter is typically approximately two millimeters. The small element diameter makes the entire device hard to see from a distance so that it does not detract from the building's aesthetics.

Article for preventing pests from entering a building structure

The present invention discloses an article for preventing pests from gaining entrance to a building structure. The article comprises a length of fibrous fabric and a plurality of adhesive strips. The fabric is designed for adhesive attachment to a dwelling or building structure adjacent points of entry and the adhesive strips are designed for adhesively attaching the fabric in snug adjacency to the outfitted building structure. The fabric is impregnated with at least one pesticide composition and has outwardly extending fibers for entangling the legs of pests attempting to gain entrance to the building structure by maneuvering across the fabric to points of entry. These outwardly extending fibers thus directly deposit pesticide composition on the pests for preventing them from gaining entrance to the building structure. Importantly, the fabric is brilliantly colored or has highly light reflective coloration for attracting the pests to the pesticide-impregnated fabric for contact treatment.

Insert for a Weep Hole Opening in a Masonry Wall

An insert (1) for a weep hole opening in a masonry wall is disclosed. The insert (1) includes a hollow body (2) defining an air flow conduit (3) and including a first open end (4) and a second open end (5). A stainless steel mesh screen (6) extends across the conduit (3) near the first open end (4) and is adapted to prevent fire brands and sparks from passing through the body (2). A locating member, in the form of a grate (7), is hingedly connected to the body (2) adjacent the first open end (4). The screen (6) is located in a recess (8) in the rear of the grate (7) and friction between the screen (6) and the grate (7) retains the screen (6) in the recess (8). The grate (7) is formed from a material that substantially retains its spatial integrity when exposed to the heat flux profile generated by a typical forest fire, such that the grate (7) continues thereafter to locate the screen (6). The grate (7) also has a plurality of ventilation apertures (9) to allow air to pass through the air flow conduit (3). A mortar guard (10) releasably snap-lockingly engages the grate (7) to cover the ventilation apertures (9) to prevent mortar clogging the apertures (9) during rendering.
