A modular solar canopy structure 10 comprises first and second supports, connected by a U-shaped beam which serves to hold the support structures together and as a rainwater gutter. Each support comprises a foundation, a column extension member and first and second arms which may extend from upper ends of each column extension member to opposing sides. Solar panel cassettes may be mounted between the arms of adjacent support structures. Lighting may be provided beneath the solar panel cassettes.
