A signal processing system and method. The inventive system includes a first circuit for distributing an input signal between two or more channels in a current mode of operation. A second circuit is disposed in each of the channels for processing the input signal and providing an output signal in response thereto. A third circuit is provided to combine the signals output by the processing circuit. A fourth circuit is included for controlling the first and the third circuits. In a specific illustrative embodiment, the system further includes a radio frequency stage for downconverting a received signal and providing the input signal in response thereto. In the specific embodiment, the first circuit includes a mixing circuit. The mixing circuit includes Gilbert cells and circuitry for providing automatic gain control for each of the channels individually. The Gilbert cells and the automatic gain control circuitry are driven by a transconductance amplifier and therefore operate in a current mode. Differential digital automatic gain control signals are provided in response to a channel select signal from a digital control circuit. The inventive circuit provides multiple IF channels which may be filtered individually. The invention thereby provides wide band operation in a simple, single stage implementation that consumes little power. Further, the current mode thereof is effective in the reduction of insertion loss.

High-linearity folding image mixer

The invention relates to a high-linearity folding image mixer which is of a structure characterized in that a double-balanced switch pair is embedded in a current mirror. Under the combined operation of the current mirror and the double-balanced switch pair, an intermediate frequency current signal is generated from a transconductance radio frequency current after the frequency conversion, wherein the size of the intermediate frequency current signal has an image proportional relation with the radio frequency current; and then an output voltage is formed on a load resistor by the current. Dueto the proportional replicating property of the current mirror, the mixer has better linearity than that of a Gilbert mixer of a folding structure. In addition, the traditional mixers are mainly of astacked structure of transconductance, mixing switch pair and load phase from a power supply to the ground. In the mixer provided by the invention, a parallel cascade of transconductance, mixing cascade and load phase is realized, and the mixer is suitable for low supply voltage applications.

A low-voltage frequency mixer

The invention provides a low-voltage CMOS folding co-source co-grid mixer. The mixer includes the following parts: a pair of transconductance poles composed of NMOS tubes, tow pairs of switch poles composed of NMOS tubes, a pair of load poles composed of NMOS, and a current source. In the structure of the mixer circuit, the transconductance poles are connected with the switch poles in a co-source co-grid method. The invention solves the problems of the high power supply high voltage caused by the overlapping of the transconductance poles and the switch poles of the traditional Gilbert mixer, and the compromise design between the high transconductance and the high linearity of the transconductance poles and the low noise of the switch poles. The invention can be used in the application of the deep submicron RF CMOS circuit, in particular in the design developing of the satellite navigation double-system compatible receiver radio frequency integrated circuit. The invention has bright application prospect in both the military and the civilian fields.

Linearity improvement of Gilbert mixers

Method and system are disclosed for providing an improved linearity Gilbert mixer. The Gilbert mixer of the present invention includes a conventional mixer core coupled to a high linearity, multistage amplifier. The multistage amplifier includes two or more transistor stages connected together in a global feedback arrangement. The global feedback provides a greater loop gain for the amplifier than the local feedback arrangement, thereby increasing the linearity of the amplifier. In addition, having more than one transistor stage in the amplifier serves to increase the isolation of the RF input signal from the LO input signal. Furthermore, by providing parallel output stages in the multistage amplifier, several mixer cores may be driven from the same source while sharing the feedback mechanism.

The invention discloses a current reuse high linearity folding current mirror mixer. A double balanced frequency mixing switch pair is embedded into a current mirror, under common effect of the current mirror and the double balanced switch pair, radio frequency current of a transconductance grade generates an intermediate frequency current signal after frequency conversion, amplitude is consistent with the radio frequency current of the transconductance level, and output voltage is formed on a load resistor. Low power semi-active and semi-passive broadband down mixer

The invention discloses a low power semi-active and semi-passive broadband down mixer. The low power semi-active and semi-passive broadband down mixer finishes a frequency mixing function by a current mirror amplifier (M1-M12) composed of four basic current mirrors and an embedded passive switch core (M17-M20). The current mirror amplifier is used for executing an input stage and an output stage of the mixer, and a two-input port and quad-output port structure of the current mirror amplifier is equivalent to a double-balanced topological structure of a traditional Gilbert mixer. The passive switch core is embedded between grids of input and output MOS (Metal Oxide Semiconductor) tubes of the current mirror amplifier, and the passive switch core has no DC bias current and does not consume voltage drops and introduce power consumption, so that the flicker noise and linearity of the mixer can be improved; meanwhile, a conduction resistor of the passive switch core MOS tube acts as a series peak resistor, so that the operation bandwidth of the mixer is expanded. The mixer does not adopt an inductance passive element but has the respective advantages of an active Gilbert mixer and a passive mixer, and the mixer can meet the performance requirement of a multi-standard radio frequency receiver.

Power mixer circuit

The invention discloses a power mixer circuit. A Gilbert mixer circuit and a power amplifier circuit are combined. The power mixer comprises a transconductance circuit, a gain bootstrap circuit, a switching stage circuit and a load circuit which are electrically connected in sequence. The transconductance stage circuit is used for inputting a baseband signal. The gain bootstrap circuit is used forstabilizing an output voltage of the transconductance stage circuit. The wideband radio mixer provided by the invention is composed of a dual-NMOS-PMOS current mirror mixing unit and a current output stage; four dual-NMOS-PMOS current mirrors embedded with local oscillation signals vLO+ / - are combined together so as to form the dual-NMOS-PMOS current mirror mixing unit; the dual-NMOS-PMOS current mirror mixing unit is used for executing the input stage and passive switch core of the mixer and is equivalent to the double-balance topological structure of a traditional active Gilbert mixer; the in-phase current output ends and anti-phase current output ends of two dual-output current conveyors are in cross coupled connection with each other, so that the current output stage can be formed; and the current output stage is adopted as the transimpedance amplifier of a conventional passive mixer; and the current output stage has very low input impedance and high output impedance and is used for achieving the amplification of output current signals which have been subjected to pre-frequency conversion and effectively driving a next-stage circuit. According to the wideband radio mixer provided by the invention, inductive passive components are not required. The wideband radio mixer can simultaneously have the advantages of the active Gilbert mixer and the passive mixer.

By utilizing a transimpedance input stage to the Gilbert mixer, feedback is used to obtain higher linearity without sacrificing noise performance. The transimpedance input stage supplies a current signal to the cascode connected Gilbert switching quad, so the transimpedance amplifier output is taken from the collector of the transimpedance amplifier output transistor, instead of the emitter as normally done with transimpedance amplifiers.

Gilbert mixer with negative gm to increase nmos mixer conversion
