Input device

An input device that is capable of sensing how hard a user is pressing when contacted is disclosed. The input device includes a pressure sensing unit generating an electrical signal in accordance with pressure applied on one surface of the pressure sensing unit and a fixed resistance making a parallel electrical connection with the pressure sensing unit. Thus, not only can the input device receive a form of information that is changed proportionally in accordance with the pressure applied by the user, but the deviation in electrical characteristics that may occur during the manufacturing of different products can also be reduced. Also, by adjusting the resistance value of the fixed resistance, the sum of the resistance values by the parallel connection between the fixed resistance and the pressure sensitive resistance can be adjusted so that the electrical signal generated by the input device through pressing can be adjusted.

Capacitive coordinate detection device

A composite capacitance between a common electrode and an X detection electrode having a plurality of detours is small, whereas lengths of parallel electrodes of the X detection electrode are set to have large values. A comprehensive composite capacitance is set to be constant by increasing a composite capacitance between the common electrode and the X detection electrode. For this reason, although the detours are formed in the electrode patterns, a coordinate position can be detected with high accuracy.

Input device and method of manufacturing module unit for input device

An input device comprises a wiring board having stationary contacts and a module unit placed on the wiring board. The module unit has a structure formed integrally with actuating key portions, movable contacts, cushioning members and protruding portions. The movable contacts are disposed under the actuating key portions, and actuated by a push-on operation of the actuating key portions. The cushioning members are disposed in a space between a lower surface of the actuating key portions and an upper surface of a movable contact retainer bearing the movable contacts to make the space shrinkable when subjected to the push-on operation whereas it maintains an uniform height when not subjected to the push-on operation. The protruding portions depress top center portions of the movable contacts. The input device includes switch elements, each comprising the movable contact and the stationary contact, and the switch element is actuated by the push-on operation on the actuating key portion.

Switch structures for use on printed circuit boards

An electrical contact area on a printed circuit board (“PCB”), that would otherwise be subject to abrasion and possibly also corrosion, can be protected by covering it with another, more durable contact structure that is bonded to the first-mentioned contact area using an anistropic conductive adhesive (“ACA”). The more durable contact structure may include a member of PCB material or the like with electrically connected electrical contacts on its upper and lower surfaces. At least the upper one of these contacts (which is exposed for the service that involves possible abrasion and / or corrosion) may be given high durability by plating it with hard gold. The lower of these contacts is adhered to the main PCB via the above-mentioned ACA.
