A nasal air filtration device includes a pair of either planar or concave-convex filters, a support structure incorporating a pair of generally annular bases or sleeves for supporting the filters, and a bridge that couples the bases or sleeves to maintain them in a desired spaced-apart relation and to determine a desired angular relationship. The support structure is insertable into the nasal cavities to position the filters within corresponding nasal cavities. Flexible rims maintain the support structure and the filters in spaced-apart relation to the surrounding nasal wall. The rims conform to surrounding nasal tissue to form seals. The rims can be selectively inclined to facilitate insertion and resist accidental removal. In certain embodiments the device is combined with a filter that covers the mouth to provide an air filtration system.

The present invention relates to a ventilation system for a protective suit for use in hazardous environments. In a further aspect it concerns the protective suit itself. An air purifying respirator draws air from outside the protective suit through a filter, supplies filtered breathing air via a breathing hose to a space within the face piece, and supplies filtered ventilating air via a ventilating hose to the interior of the protective suit. A ventilation valve in the ventilating hose automatically closes only during periods of high breathing demand to counter a pressure drop inside the face piece.

A storage system for an apparatus that delivers a supply of pressurized breathable air to a patient includes a container including a first portion and a second portion. The first portion provides a storage compartment adapted to receive a flow generator of the apparatus. The present invention relates to a method for controlling the pressure supplied by a CPAP device. The method comprises repeated measurement of a respiratory air flow during operation of the device and determining at least one respiratory event from the measured time-dependent behavior of the respiratory flow, the respiratory event representing an indication that the pressure supplied by the CPAP device is too low. Furthermore, the method comprises a slow, quasi ramp-like lowering of the pressure supplied by the CPAP device as long as no respiratory event is detected. Furthermore, the invention relates to a CPAP device for carrying out such a method and to a storage medium with a corresponding program.

Use of compressed air for indoor ambient temperature conditioning is disclosed. Thermal energy is imparted to or extracted from a quantity of compressed air, and the compressed air is then directed to be released inside a structure enclosing a space, whose ambient temperature needs to be controlled. Thus, the compressed air may be used as a direct heat conduction/extraction medium. A flow of external air is created over a heat exchanger mass (a “heating mass” or a “cooling mass”), so that thermal energy of the compressed air flowing inside the heat exchanger mass is transferred to the external flow of air flowing outside the heat exchanger mass. Thus, in addition to being a direct heat conduction/extraction medium, the compressed air is being used as a heat transfer medium, that ultimately gets mixed with the flow of external air. A fresh supply of external air may be used rather than using re-circulated air, in order to maintain a high quality of breathable air. A local feedback loop may be used to route back a portion of temperature-conditioned air produced by a system according to the present invention, to regulate a flow of external air over a heat exchanger mass. Other types of environmentally benign compressible fluids may be used as a heat transport/transfer fluid instead of compressed air.

A pressure sensor detects air pressure within an air-flow path of a resuscitator and generates a first detection signal in response thereto. A flow-rate sensor detects the flow-rate within the air-flow path and generates a second detection signal In response thereto. A processor receives and processes the first and second detection signals using an algorithm to identify a ventilation rate, a lung pressure, and an air volume corresponding to the respiratory air. The invention further relates to a method for the conditioning of breathing air, comprising the steps of supplying through the inlet opening non treated breathing air, passively humidifying said supplied air through the passive humidifying means, and actively humidifying said breathing air, through the active humidifying means of a device.

A combined air-supplying/air-purifying breathing system that includes a self-contained breathing apparatus, a facepiece for delivering breathable air from the self-contained breathing apparatus to a user, and a powered air-purifying respirator having at least one filter and a blower and having an output connected by a hose assembly to the facepiece. A control interface operationally connects the self-contained breathing apparatus to the powered air-purifying respirator. The self-contained breathing apparatus includes a pressure vessel, a cylinder valve assembly and a pressure reducer, all carried by a back frame, and the powered air-purifying respirator is adapted to be mounted on, and carried by, the back frame, by coupling the back frame and the respirator together at respective attachment points.

This invention is directed toward a device which provides buoyancy to objects with negative buoyancy in water. The invention comprises a water-sensitive trigger which, when activated, causes a compressed gas to exit a canister and enter a balloon, which expands, thereby causing the object to float, in cases where the device is attached to an item on a boat, or rise to the surface, in cases where the device is attached to a sunken object. There are a number of variable characteristics, including canister size, trigger fuse length, balloon configuration, and housing material that allow a user tremendous flexibility in selecting a proper size of the invention for the user's intended purpose. The eccentric crankpin circle drives the stroke of the cylinder and the cylinder therefore generates simulated respiratory air for a human body and transmits the simulated respiratory air to the standard human head.
