Alarm system that processes both motion and vital signs using specific heuristic rules and thresholds

The invention provides a body-worn monitor that measures a patient's vital signs (e.g. blood pressure, SpO2, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature) while simultaneously characterizing their activity state (e.g. resting, walking, convulsing, falling). The body-worn monitor processes this information to minimize corruption of the vital signs by motion-related artifacts. A software framework generates alarms / alerts based on threshold values that are either preset or determined in real time. The framework additionally includes a series of ‘heuristic’ rules that take the patient's activity state and motion into account, and process the vital signs accordingly. These rules, for example, indicate that a walking patient is likely breathing and has a regular heart rate, even if their motion-corrupted vital signs suggest otherwise.

System for the prediction, rapid detection, warning, prevention, or control of changes in activity states in the brain of a subject

A system (10) analyzes signals representative of a subject's brain activity in a signal processor (12) for information indicating the subject's current activity state and for predicting a change in the activity state. One preferred embodiment uses a combination of nonlinear filtering methods to perform real-time analysis of the electro-encephalogram (EEG) or electro-corticogram (ECoG) signals from a subject patient for information indicative of or predictive of a seizure, and to complete the needed analysis at least before clinical seizure onset. The preferred system then performs an output task for prevention or abatement of the seizure, or for recording pertinent data.

Active medical device for the diagnosis of the sleep apnea syndrome

An active medical device have an improved diagnosis of a sleep apnea syndrome. This device measures the respiratory activity of the patient, determines a state of activity, this state being likely to take, according to satisfaction of predetermined criteria, a value representative of a state of sleep of the patient, and analyzes a detected signal corresponding to the respiratory activity to detect, when the aforementioned state is a state of sleep, the presence of respiratory pauses, and thereby to produce an indicating signal of sleep apnea in the event of the occurrence of a respiratory pause of duration longer than a first predetermined duration. The analysis also includes inhibiting the production of the aforesaid indicating signal, or a treatment to resolve an apnea, when the duration of the detected respiratory pause is longer than a second predetermined duration, typically of at least one minute.

System and method for root cause linking of trouble tickets

A system and method for providing an accurate root cause failure by linking user incident reports to the root cause failure in a diagnostic database that reflects the system's current configuration. The system is pre-populated with pre-identified symptoms that are associated with assets in the system. The pre-identified symptoms are inactive until actual failures with assets are detected by a monitoring application. After the pre-identified symptoms become active, they are presented to service representatives who also answer calls from users. The activated pre-identified symptoms are used to assist the service representatives to solve problems observed by the users.

Trusted remote attestation agent (TRAA)

Systems and methods for use with a service provider and a consumer electronic device include a trusted remote attestation agent (TRAA) configured to perform a set of checking procedures or mechanisms to help ensure the security status of a consumer electronic device (e.g., a mobile terminal or phone) that holds financial instruments. The checking procedures may include: self-verifying integrity by the TRAA; checking for presence of a provisioning SIM card (one that was present when the financial instruments were enabled on the device); checking that a communication connection between the consumer electronic device and the service provider is available and active; and checking that communication connectivity to a home mobile network is available and active. The frequency of the checking mechanisms may be adjusted, for example, according to a risk-profile of a user associated with the device or the location (e.g., GPS location) of the device. The checks may be used, for example, to temporarily disable or limit the use of the financial instruments from the device.

System for power savings in server farms

A threshold-based approach is used to assign tasks to servers in a server farm. A “number of connections” count or “connection rate” is maintained for an active server and when the count achieves a first value a wake up signal is sent to a next (inactive) server to alert the inactive server to become active and periodic keep alive signals are initiated. When the number of connections next reaches a second, higher value, subsequent requests for connections are sent to the newly active server. Variations of this approach allow for servers and their associated processes and devices to be handled in clusters for power management scaling efficiency. Servers can be placed in the inactive mode when the number of connections reaches a lower threshold. Other criteria can be used to determine activation of servers, processors or other devices or processes. Other types of resource use monitoring can also be used with this invention.
