Method and apparatus for ranking web page search results

A method and apparatus for ranking a plurality of pages identified during a search of a linked database includes forming a linear combination of two or more matrices, and using the coefficients of the eigenvector of the resulting matrix to rank the quality of the pages. The matrices includes information about the pages and are generally normalized, stochastic matrices. The linear combination can include attractor matrices that indicate desirable or “high quality” sites, and / or non-attractor matrices that indicate sites that are undesirable. Attractor matrices and non-attractor matrices can be used alone or in combination with each other in the linear combination. Additional bias toward high quality sites, or away from undesirable sites, can be further introduced with probability weighting matrices for attractor and non-attractor matrices. Other known matrices, such as a co-citation matrix or a bibliographic coupling matrix, can also be used in the present invention.

Data processing system for autonomously building speech identification and tagging data

A method, system, and computer program product for autonomously transcribing and building tagging data of a conversation. A corpus processing agent monitors a conversation and utilizes a speech recognition agent to identify the spoken languages, speakers, and emotional patterns of speakers of the conversation. While monitoring the conversation, the corpus processing agent determines emotional patterns by monitoring voice modulation of the speakers and evaluating the context of the conversation. When the conversation is complete, the corpus processing agent determines synonyms and paraphrases of spoken words and phrases of the conversation taking into consideration any localized dialect of the speakers. Additionally, metadata of the conversation is created and stored in a link database, for comparison with other processed conversations. A corpus, a transcription of the conversation containing metadata links, is then created. The corpus processing agent also determines the frequency of spoken keywords and phrases and compiles a popularity index.

Method for node ranking in a linked database

A method assigns importance ranks to nodes in a linked database, such as any database of documents containing citations, the world wide web or any other hypermedia database. The rank assigned to a document is calculated from the ranks of documents citing it. In addition, the rank of a document is calculated from a constant representing the probability that a browser through the database will randomly jump to the document. The method is particularly useful in enhancing the performance of search engine results for hypermedia databases, such as the world wide web, whose documents have a large variation in quality.

Method and system for processing or searching user records

Preferably for use in a directory enquires system, the invention provides a method and system for processing user records to determine common entries therebetween. When two user records are determined to store common information then link data is generated (18) and stored in each user record (22) indicating a link between the two records. This link information is then used in subsequent searching (20) of the user records to determine the most likely result from a list of possible results obtained from a search of the user records. In a directory enquiries system (14) the user records contain user ID and telephone number details as well as address book data of each user's friends, family, or other acquaintances. The address book data is used to determine whether a link between user records should be formed.

A navigation system comprises a storage device which stores link data of each of links constituting roads on a map. As for a carpool link defined as a link allowing only a vehicle in which a plurality of persons are riding to pass through, the link data contains information indicative thereof. The navigation system searches for a recommended route from a departure place to a destination by use of the link data. If the links constituting the recommended route includes a carpool link, the navigation system receives an input of the number of person-on-board. The navigation system searches for a recommended route once again by use of the link data, from the departure place to the destination comprising the links passable with the number of person-on-board received by the receive step.

Communication navigation system

A communication navigation system, wherein a navigation apparatus requests a recommended route guidance data to a information center and guides a user of the navigation apparatus to a destination by using the recommended route guidance data received from the information center. In this present invention, the navigation apparatus transmits version data of road data held in the navigation apparatus at the request to the information center. The information center prepares a guidance data of recommended route using latest road data held in the information center, and transmits the data to the navigation apparatus. When the information center transmits the guidance data, the information center selects the type of data of the road links along the recommended route, in the guidance data, by comparing the version data received from the navigation apparatus and the version data of each road link along the recommended route. If each data of road links along the recommended route is considered to be contained in the road data held in the navigation apparatus, the information center transmits the only data which enable to specify the road link from the road data held in the navigation apparatus. On the hand, if each data of road links is considered not to be contained in the road data held in the navigation apparatus, the information center transmits whole data of the road link. Therefore, the navigation apparatus can generate the route guidance data by extracting road link data, from its own road data, corresponding to the road link specified by transmitted data and by reconstructing road link data using transmitted data.

Car navigation system prioritizing automatic travel road

Road map data includes node data indicating a branch point, a junction point, or an intersection point and link data indicating a road between the preceding points. The node data and link data include distances, kinds of the roads, costs based on easiness of traveling. In a route search, a route is selected so that a total cost included in traveling on the route to a destination can be minimum. When command is generated as giving priority to an automatic travel road, costs included in the node and link data that correspond to the automatic travel road are lowered. A route including the automatic travel road is thereby selected in preference to other routes.

Reverse link scheduler for CDMA networks

A base station (BS) is configured to support a plurality of mobile stations on the reverse link by selectively designating one or more of them as members in a rate-controlled set. Members follow the common rate control commands broadcast by the BS, while non-members do not. The non-members preferably fall back to a minimum data rate. Set members each provide feedback to the BS indicating whether the member is “mobile-limited” wherein it cannot increase its reverse link data rate even if commanded to do so by the BS, or whether the member is “command-limited” wherein the member could increase its data rate but is not permitted to do so by the BS. The BS dynamically adjusts membership in the set to maintain a balance between having too many mobile-limited or command-limited members, since either condition is inefficient. The BS also may adjust membership by attempting to equalize membership times in the set.
