Computer-implemented methods are described for, first, characterizing a specific category of information content—pornography, for example—and then accurately identifying instances of that category of content within a real-time media stream, such as a web page, e-mail or other digital dataset. This content-recognition technology enables a new class of highly scalable applications to manage such content, including filtering, classifying, prioritizing, tracking, etc. An illustrative application of the invention is a software product for use in conjunction with web-browser client software for screening access to web pages that contain pornography or other potentially harmful or offensive content. A target attribute set of regular expression, such as natural language words and/or phrases, is formed by statistical analysis of a number of samples of datasets characterized as “containing,” and another set of samples characterized as “not containing,” the selected category of information content. This list of expressions is refined by applying correlation analysis to the samples or “training data.” Neural-network feed-forward techniques are then applied, again using a substantial training dataset, for adaptively assigning relative weights to each of the expressions in the target attribute set, thereby forming an awaited list that is highly predictive of the information content category of interest.

Apparatus and method for beamforming in a changing-interference environment

An apparatus and method for adaptively producing transmitted signals and processing received signals in a communication system which includes smart antenna array of antenna elements. When processing received signals, the invention modifies an existing processing scheme by incorporating information about a second set of signals for which training or other characteristic information such as a reference is unknown to information about a first set of signals for which characteristic information such as a reference is known, prior to executing the processing scheme. This approach can be used to modify the receive weights which determine the relative weight assigned to the signals received from each of a plurality of antenna elements to take into account the presence of a changing interference environment. This permits an adaptive updating of the receive weights based on the additional information provided by the second set of data, and may be accomplished faster and with less computational resources than required to determine the weights based on applying the entire processing scheme to the second set of data. In addition, assuming a relationship between the transmit and receive environment, the invention can also be used to modify the transmit weights used by the base station.

The invention provides a refinement method of a wireless sensor network location which is based on hops. After the initial location of an unknown node in a network is implemented, the method adopts a multi-hop extension algorithm and the least square method of relative weights for implementing the refinement computation of an initial estimation position and acquiring the coordinate of a final estimation position of the unknown node. The refinement method implements the refinement of the unknown node in a multi-hop range, thus increasing the redundancy of position computation and the number of valid reference points in the refinement, and improving the precision of the location refinement of the unknown node. With respect to the least square method of relative weights, the method assigns different weights to the reference nodes with different setting accuracies, thus suppressing the accumulation of distance measurement error and node location error in the refinement computation, and effectively improving the location precision of the unknown node. The refinement method can be taken as a subsequent step of the location methods which are based on distances or unrelated to distances, thus achieving the goal of improving location precision.
