40 results about "Uv c radiation" patented technology

Ultraviolet C (UVC) ultraviolet radiation with wavelengths between 200 and 290 nm; all of this type of radiation is filtered out by the ozone layer so that none reaches the earth's surface. Ultraviolet C is germicidal and is also used in ultraviolet phototherapy.

Disinfection device and method

An ultraviolet area sterilizer or disinfector is incorporated into a building structure where concern exists regarding the presence of pathogenic bacteria on environmental surfaces. Ultraviolet C (UV-C) generators generate UV-C that is directed to architectural partitions of an enclosed area. The architectural partitions reflect UV-C to kill pathogens in the enclosed area. The device transmits a calculated dose of UV-C from a fixture mounted to an architectural partition in the enclosed area. Once an effective cumulative dose of UV-C has been reflected to radiation sensors, as measured by the sensors, the device shuts down. The device allocates power to specific UV-C emitters so as to direct UV-C radiation more uniformly throughout the area, as measured by the sensors.

Hand sanitizer/sterilizer

A germicidal system and method for deactivating pathogens on the surface of a bodily extremity protected by a prophylactic covering substantially opaque to UV-C radiation. The device includes an enclosure having one or more openings through which the extremity can be inserted. The enclosure contains a radiation source configured to produce germicidal radiation having a wavelength of about 253.7 nm. The openings are configured relative to the radiation source such that the inserted extremity is in close proximity to the radiation source. The prophylactic covered extremity is preferably a gloved hand thereby sanitizing the surface of the glove. The extremity inserted is preferably exposed for a predetermined period of time to ensure a desired level of sanitization. Optionally, the device can include an orientation detector to determine the position of the user's hand and the spread of the user's fingers, and a surface detector to determine whether the user's hand is covered by a glove.

C-band disinfector

A C-Band Disinfector disinfects objects placed within the device by subjecting the objects to closed-loop emissions of UV-C radiation. UV-C sensors measure reflected UV-C radiation and control the period of operation of the device. In an additional embodiment, UV-C radiation is transmitted by fiber-optic cable to a particular area of an object to be disinfected. After the prescribed dose is applied, the fiber-optic cable is moved to a new area of the object, and the UV-C disinfection process continues until all areas of the object have been disinfected by exposure to the prescribed dose of the UV-C radiation.

Methods, systems, and devices for high-level disinfection

A disinfection device includes a disinfection chamber into which a radiation source emits ultraviolet-C (UV-C) radiation. A radiation sensor detects the amount of UV-C radiation within the disinfection chamber, and a temperature sensor produces temperature values of a temperature within the disinfection chamber. A processing unit generates accumulated UV-C radiation values and verifies that the accumulated UV-C radiation value in the disinfection chamber reaches a first radiation threshold while also verifying that the temperature in the disinfection chamber stays below a first temperature threshold. The UV-C radiation may be emitted into the disinfection chamber over one or more fixed periods of time while the total time for the disinfection process is limited to a primary time interval. The process may terminate successfully if the first radiation threshold is exceeded before the primary time interval expires. The disinfection device provides high level disinfection of contaminated articles in a short time and at a low temperature.

Method and Apparatus for Sterilization of Medical Instruments and Devices by Ultraviolet Sterilization

An object is sterilized with ultraviolet-C (UV-C) radiation having a wavelength from about 235 nm to about 295 nm. An advantageous wavelength for the UV-C radiation is about 253.7 nm. The object is inserted into a container, which is then sealed. At least a portion of the container is substantially transparent to UV-C radiation over the wavelengths of interest. The container and object are placed into a UV-C irradiation device and are irradiated for an exposure time with UV-C radiation having a predetermined intensity. The exposure time is determined such that a predetermined portion of user-specified pathogens disposed on the object is inactivated. Technical sterilization (99.9999% inactivation) can be attained with relatively short exposure times. The container can be a flexible pouch or a rigid kit. Suitable materials that are substantially transparent to UV-C radiation over the wavelengths of interest include quartz, borosilicate glass, cyclic olefin copolymer, and fluoropolymer.
