Touch sensitive apparatus and method for improved visual feedback

A touch sensitive apparatus and method of operation to improve visual feedback and visual perception of tactile input to an operator. The apparatus includes a touch screen device or display having a touch overlay, a processor and stored program instructions in a memory in which a three-dimensional graphical image, such as a key element, is created in the apparatus and shown on the display as an input device or keypad to the processor. Each key element includes a beveled surface surrounding a flat surface. When a displayed key element is touched by a probe, such as a finger, the screen area about the displayed key element and the finger, visually enlarges or "splats" confirming the selection of the particular key. Concomitantly or simultaneously, the key element detents or depresses within the key pad, changes color and bevel size further verifying the key selection to the operator thereby creating a sense of key movement and visual perception of tactile input to the operator aiding in the operation of the key pad. The simultaneous visual key enlargement, visual detenting and change in key color and bevel size upon key selection in a touch sensitive apparatus improves the feedback to the operator in the selection and confirmation of a key element actuated by the operator.

System for delivering and enabling interactivity with images

A system is disclosed for delivering and displaying images on web pages and enabling and implementing various interactive functions with respect to the images, so as to give a user the illusion that objects or scenes depicted in the images are rotating, being zoomed in on, changing color, being measured, or having certain areas of the objects or scenes highlighted with enlargement and/or text, among other things. Various methods of enabling and implementing the interactive functions are described, including enabling the interactive functions by displaying and hiding image layers by manipulating the width and height parameters of image layers or adjusting width and height styles associated with image layers and enabling the interactive functions by associating image layers either directly or indirectly via a grid with strips defined by styles. The system includes a graphical user interface (GUI) that a user can use to configure his or her own images for interactive functions, including an interface that invites a user to supply parameters corresponding to those necessary to enable and allow to be carried out the interactive functions and/or parameters corresponding to data about the images, for example, specifications for an object depicted in a set of images.

Assay device with timer function

An assay device for determining an analyte in an aqueous sample comprises: (i) an elongate flow matrix (6) allowing lateral transport of fluid therethrough by capillary action, wherein the matrix comprises a liquid application zone (3) and downstream thereof, a detection zone (8) having an immobilized capture agent capable of directly or indirectly binding to said analyte, (ii) a wicking member (13) placed at the downstream end of the flow matrix and having an upstream end and a downstream end, and (iii) a time indicator (14) placed downstream of the detection zone (8) for indicating when liquid applied to the liquid application zone has reached the time indicator. The time indicator comprises an indicator substance or substance combination which is capable of exhibiting a visible color change when hydrated by the aqueous sample. The assay device is characterized in that the time indicator (14) is arranged in contact with the wicking member (13) at a variable position between the upstream and downstream ends thereof to thereby permit variation of the time elapsing from the application of the liquid until the indicator substance changes color. A method of performing an assay for determining an analyte in a sample, comprises the steps of flowing sample and assay liquid(s) through the flow matrix of the device such that they reach the detection zone in a predetermined sequence, and when the time indicator has changed color, reading the result of the assay in the detection zone.
