Tracking reception of wireless emergency alerts

A method and system are described for providing an accumulated set of alert response message content arising from disseminating an emergency alert message to user equipment via mobile wireless network infrastructure. An emergency alert is received that is issued by an emergency alert system. The emergency alert includes: an emergency description, and a target geographic area. An emergency alert message, corresponding to the emergency alert, is disseminated to user equipment via mobile wireless infrastructure. A set of alert response messages issued by user equipment responding to the emergency alert message are accumulated. Instances of the alert response messages provide: an emergency alert identification, a user equipment location, and an alert message handling result. An aggregated result is presented that indicates user equipment-issued alert response messages.

Intelligent provisioning of cell / sector coverage to optimize broadcast areas for wireless emergency alerts

ActiveUS12458129B2Dispensing apparatusMedical applicatorsBroadcastingEmergency alert system
Systems and methods are discussed herein for an optimal approach for wireless emergency alerting within cells of wireless communication networks by using a careful estimation of a “true effective radius” of each cell / sector to eliminate broadcasts falling short of alert area boundaries (with users in such gaps in coverage not receiving an alert despite being in the designated alert area). By utilizing true provisioning information of each cell / sector that is at least partly within the alert area boundaries to understand the true effective radii of particular cell sectors can be selected for broadcast of the alert such that the entire alert area is covered for broadcasting of the alert without excessive over-broadcasting, e.g., broadcasting excessively beyond the alert area boundaries. Alerts can then be broadcast within each selected cell sector.

Systems and methods for providing a contextual menu with information related to an emergency alert

ActiveUS12689808B2The InternetEmergency alert system
Systems and methods are described herein for presenting additional information related to an emergency alert. A media guidance application may detect that a new emergency alert has been received. The media guidance application may then perform a search of various content sources (e.g., program listings, the Internet, etc.) for content related to the emergency alert. The media guidance application may then present the search results in a contextual menu enabling the user to access content of the search results. The media guidance application may also provide more options, such as, recording or pausing media content that the user was in the process of consuming when the emergency alert was generated, and an option to the user not to bring up the contextual menu again if the same emergency alert is repeated.

Light and emergency alert system

A light and emergency alert system for alerting individuals to smoke or carbon monoxide in combination with a flashlight includes a housing that contains a processor. A light source is mounted to and directed away from the housing. A hazard detector mounted in the housing adjacent to a vent extending through the housing. An alarm indicator is mounted to the housing. The processor is programmed to selectively activate the light source. The hazard detector senses for hazardous conditions in a surrounding atmosphere via the vent, including a presence of smoke and a presence of a concentration of carbon monoxide greater than a predetermined threshold. The processor causes the alarm indicator to emit an alert signal when the hazard detector senses one of the hazardous conditions.

Emergency Alert System

An emergency alert system and method for providing proximity-based alerts in real-time is provided. The system generates a virtual perimeter around one or more entities, wherein real-time location information is used to determine whether a first entity is within the virtual perimeter generated around a second entity, and wherein the system will send an alert once the first entity enters the perimeter and terminate the alert once the first entity exits the perimeter. The system may the rate of data transmission depending on whether the first entity is registered in a database corresponding to a geographical region where the system is administered and whether the second device is in an active broadcasting mode. The system also predicts the location of the first and second entities and uses the difference between the predicted location and actual location to adjust the location and size of the perimeter to provide adequate warning.
