The present invention relates to a patient care and communication system which utilizes a central processing system and a plurality of remote stations electrically connected to the central processing system to facilitate visual and data communications. Each remote station includes telephone circuitry which is connected to a private branch exchange for telephone communications between stations. In addition, the private branch exchange is connected to a telephone exchange and a plurality of telephones for facilitating telephone communication therebetween. The central processing system facilitates the visual and data communications between the plurality of remote stations, and includes a system for determining which of the plurality of remote stations are transmitting the visual and data communications and which of the plurality of remote stations are to receive the visual and data communications. The central processing system also includes a system which establishes a communication link between the transmitting stations and the receiving stations. The remote stations include a processing system which also facilitates the visual, data and telephone communications and a display for displaying the visual communications. The present invention also includes a staff and/or patient locator system, in which each remote station includes an infrared receiver that receives infrared transmissions from a portable transmitter worn by a staff member or patient. The infrared transmissions include identity information associated with the person wearing the transmitter. The identity information is then transferred to the central processing system which determines the identity and location of each person wearing a portable transmitter.

Location-based technologies (e.g., global position system (GPS)) can be employed to facilitate providing multi-modal, multi-lingual location-based services. Identification of location can provide significant context as to identifying user state and intentions. Thus, location identification can facilitate providing/augmenting data and services (e.g., location-aware based suggestions, truncating contact lists based upon location, location-based reminders as a user approaches a predetermined location, truncating pre-loaded tasks, suggesting routes to accomplish pre-loaded tasks in a PIM). Still other aspects can augment GPS location identification with a compass, accelerometer, azimuth control, cellular triangulation, SPOT services of telephone, etc. Effectively, these alternative aspects can facilitate determination of a target location by detecting movement and direction of a user and/or portable device.

A software architecture can include an artifact layer and a configuration layer. The artifact layer can contain multiple application independent artifacts. A configuration layer can contain at least one application. The application can include multiple states in which the application executes instructions. The states can exist within execution spaces that are distributed across a network. The application uses artifacts of the artifact layer, which can operate in a state dependent manner.

Systems and methods to forward data frames are provided. A particular apparatus may include a plurality of server computers and a distributed virtual bridge. The distributed virtual bridge may include a plurality of bridge elements coupled to the plurality of server computers and configured to forward a data frame between the plurality of server computers. The plurality of bridge elements may further be configured to automatically learn address data associated with the data frame. A controlling bridge may be coupled to the plurality of bridge elements. The controlling bridge may include a global forwarding table that is automatically updated to include the address data and is accessible to the plurality of bridge elements.

The present invention provides a terminal capable of establishing multiple communication sessions with a public network proxy through different access networks. The terminal actively communicates with the public network proxy to control which of the multiple communication paths are active, as well as control the transition from actively using one communication path to using another. The public network proxy facilitates data and voice sessions between the terminal and any number of other communication devices. In one embodiment, the communication sessions are reserved tunneling sessions, and the terminal cooperates with the public network proxy to effectively control how many tunneling sessions are established, how many tunneling sessions are active at any given time, and the transition from one tunneling session to another for active communications. Each of the communication or tunneling sessions may be established over different access networks using different communication technologies and protocols.

A method for target device discovery on a network is disclosed. The method includes multicasting a signal from a master initiator over the network. A unicast is received from a new target recently connected to the network where the new target is passive when no multicast signal from the master initiator is received. Then the new target is added to a list of targets connected to the network. The method concludes by sending out a next multicast to other initiators where the next multicast includes information regarding the adding of the new target to the network.

A large format billboard type electronic sign includes at least one structural frame member mounted to a front side of a planar mounting structure that defines a plurality of structural bay members configured for receiving and removably supporting therein a corresponding plurality of weatherized display modules to conceal and protect at least one preformed wiring harness from wind load forces in excess of 100 pounds per square foot and degradation from the effects of ultra-violet sunlight; each individual one of said plurality of structural bay members is provided with a plurality of receptacles to facilitate mechanically and electrically coupling the at least one preformed wiring harness to the plurality of weatherized display modules; and wherein the at least one preformed wiring harness is provided with a plurality of preformed nodes which are dimensioned to be snapped or pressed into position in a wire harness node receptacle forming part of the plurality of receptacles.

Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system for consolidating the workflow of various devices into a wireless, voice-enabled workflow. The method includes establishing a connection between a wireless, voice-enabled device and a data system using an interface and accessing the data system using voice commands via the connection between the wireless communication device and the data system. Voice commands may be used to facilitate data acquisition, data retrieval, order entry, dictation, audio playback, voice over IP conferencing, paging, and/or data analysis, for example. In an embodiment, a plurality of connections may be established between the wireless, voice-enabled device and a plurality of data systems. Bluetooth or WiFi wireless technology, for example, may be used to facilitate hands-free hygienic, centralized operation of a plurality of data systems using the wireless, voice-enabled device and the interface.

A combination cellular and Wi-Fi hardware device has an IP interface that is configured to communicate with a first cellular network, a Wi-Fi network, or both. The combination cellular and Wi-Fi hardware device is configured to provide the network functionality (e.g., virtualized network cloud) that is required to facilitate communication and data flow between the IP interface and either a second cellular network or a cloud computing infrastructure network. Representative apparatus includes an internal reflecting element (IRE) comprising a reflection face located on the IRE at a region of intended contact between the IRE and a solublized sample; an infrared radiation source for supplying an evanescent wave of infrared radiation and directing the same from the outside of the IRE to the inside thereof so as to cause the infrared radiation to be incident on the reflection face, wherein the infrared radiation is reflected from the reflection face once; a sample cell; a functionalized tip comprising a surface-immobilized probe that partially or completely fills the volume exposed to the evanescent wave; and a detector for detecting the once-reflected infrared radiation.

The modification kit when installed provides the electronic sign.

A system and method for communication and messaging among self-adapting peer nodes is disclosed, where each node maintains a list of authorized peer nodes. The nodes exchange requests directly with other nodes over networks, providing information identifying the requesting node and the type of request. The receiving node authenticates the requesting node, authenticates the type of request, and determines method of response to the request. If the request is authenticated and the type of request is valid, the receiving node also validates the incoming request and originating node and adapts its peer node database, applying any required changes. The types of requests exchanged between nodes include: status and location change, message, audio, voice, video, text, and data. The types of responses include: authorized, unauthorized, or ignore. The nodes may periodically send and receive requests for status, messages, and data updates from an optional central server.

An electronic sign constructed from a kit for converting a static sign into a dynamic electronic sign comprises a plurality of display modules; a plurality of sign sections each having a front-facing portion and a rear-facing portion, the front facing portion defining a two dimensional array of bays arranged in a plurality of rows along a vertical direction and a plurality of columns along a horizontal direction, each bay configured to receive one of the display modules, the rear-facing portion for coupling to an anchored signage mounting structure; and a plurality of power routing systems, each power routing system having a power input for coupling to a power source and a plurality of power extensions, each power extension for coupling the power source to one of the plurality of display modules.
