The ink set of this invention comprises at least two inks, one of which contains a pH sensitive polymer, a glycol ether, and preferably a self-dispersing pigment colorant. A coating composition for an ink jet recording medium comprises an aqueous suspension of binder, a cationic fixing agent, an absorptive pigment, and a sizing agent. The coating composition combines solids content of greater than 30% with good runnability. The composition may preferably be dispersed at pH values in the range of 4.5 to 7.0. The pigment is preferably a mixture of 50% or more silica gel having a pore volume of 0.5-2.0 cc / g, and 10% or more alumina or alumina hydrate. A method for making down a composition has sequential steps of dispersing a binder in water, adding a cationic fixing agent, dispersing an alumina and an absorptive silica, adding a fluorescent whitening agent, cooling the composition, and finally adding a sizing agent.

The novel coated media comprises an inkjet printable substrate having multiple coating layers, and provides high quality, waterfast images. When used on an inkjet printer, the coated media permits the ink to dry almost instantly to produce a waterfast, high gloss image.

Dual mode carpet cleaning method

A dual mode carpet cleaning method is capable of being used in both a deep cleaning mode and a fast drying surface cleaning mode. The method utilizes a carpet cleaning apparatus that provides selective communication with different sets of cleaning jets. One set of cleaning jets is operated to deliver a first cleaning solution that penetrates deeply into a carpet in the deep cleaning mode. A second set of cleaning jets is operated to deliver a lower flow rate of a second cleaning solution that does not penetrate as deeply into the carpet and dries quickly. The method involves manually operating a valve on the apparatus to selectively communicate a source of cleaning fluid of the apparatus with one of the first set of cleaning jets and the second set of cleaning jets, and discharging the cleaning liquid from the selected one of the first set of cleaning jets and second set of cleaning jets onto a carpet to be cleaned.
