Defective recording element correction parameter selection chart, defective recording element correction parameter determination method and apparatus, and image forming apparatus

A defective recording element correction parameter selection chart which is output by an image forming apparatus that performs image formation on a recording medium by a plurality of recording elements included in a recording head while conveying at least one of the recording head and the recording medium so as to cause relative movement between the recording head and the recording medium, the chart being used, in a case where there is at least one defective recording element which is not able to perform recording among the plurality of recording elements, in order to determine a defective recording element correction parameter expressing an amount of correction for correcting image formation defects caused by the at least one defective recording element, with image formation by a recording element other than the at least one defective recording element, the chart includes: a reference patch constituted by a uniform image which is an image formed on a region of the recording medium with a uniform density based on a constant tone; and at least one measurement patch in which a state after correction using the amount of correction corresponding to a candidate value of the defective recording element correction parameter which expresses the amount of correction is reproduced in a state that one or more of the recording elements which have formed the reference patch are set to be in a non-recording state, the candidate value of the defective recording element correction parameter being applied to an image formation portion which is formed by a recording element that carries out recording in a vicinity of a non-recording position of the one or more of the recording elements which have formed the reference patch and have been set to be in the non-recording state.

Recording position error measurement apparatus and method, image forming apparatus and method, and computer-readable medium

A recording position error measurement apparatus includes a read image signal acquisition device and a signal processing device having: a dividing device which divides pixel series of the read image signal into sequences having different remainder values so as to generate image signals of the respective sequences; a prediction signal generation device which calculates regular prediction signals which are predicted with respect to the respective sequences, according to the read image signal; a threshold value determination device which determines tone value differences corresponding to respective distances representing recording position errors from the prediction signals, and which determines threshold values corresponding respectively to the recording position errors, from the tone value differences; a change signal calculation device which calculates a change signal indicating a difference between the prediction signal and the image signal of each of the sequences; and an error distance calculation device which specifies the recording position errors of the plurality of recording elements in the recording head according to comparing the change signal with each of the threshold values.

Image processing method and apparatus, and image forming method and apparatus

An image processing method coverts multiple-value image data of an image into a plurality of dot patterns to form the image on a recording medium, the multiple-value image data being constituted of a plurality of pixels each of which has a graduated tone value that is one of graduated tone numbers, the image being formed by means of: a recording head which has a plurality of recording elements arranged in a first direction, the recording elements forming dots on the recording medium to form the image in accordance with the dot patterns, each of the dot patterns representing an arrangement of the dots corresponding to the graduated tone value for each of the pixels; and a relative movement device which causes the recording head and the recording medium to move relative to each other in a second direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The image processing method includes the steps of: preparing a plurality of dot pattern tables respectively for the graduated tone numbers, each of the dot pattern tables being demarcated into blocks of the dot patterns correlated with positions of the pixels so that a block row constituted of two of the blocks of the dot patterns that are mutually adjacent in the second direction is defined by a boundary in the second direction that does not coincide with a straight line parallel to the second direction, the dot patterns in each of the dot pattern tables being determined so that banding caused by recording characteristics of the recording elements is corrected in accordance with a correlation between each of the recording elements and surrounding recording elements of said each of the recording elements; and then selecting the dot patterns respectively for the pixels from the dot pattern tables in accordance with the positions of the pixels and the graduated tone values of the pixels to convert the multiple-value image data into the dot patterns.
