Stent having variable properties and method of its use

A stent and method of its use, the stent in its expanded configuration, exhibiting varying outward radial force along its length. In use, the expanded stent is of a tapered configuration which provides greater force in vessel regions requiring greater force and less force in regions requiring less. In particular the stent is useful in the ostium regions and at areas of bifurcation in vessels. Varying force over the length of the stent is achieved by varying the number of elements, the density of elements, the thickness of the elements making up the stent body, and maintaining a substantially metal to artery ratio in the expanded stent over its length.

Methods and apparatus for joining small diameter conductors within medical electrical leads

InactiveUS7292894B2Reliable mechanical joint and electrical couplingFit tightlyRelieving strain on wire connectionInternal electrodesEngineeringElectrical conductor
A conductor assembly and methods for mechanically and electrically coupling a small diameter conductor to a lead component having a relatively larger sized conductor bore is provided. The assembly includes a sizing member sized to fit securely around a relatively small diameter conductor and to further fit within a conductor bore so that temporary compression (e.g., crimping, crushing, or staking) of a discrete portion of the conductor bore mechanically couples, and establishes electrical communication between, the conductor and the lead component. Alternately, a conductive sleeve member having a relatively large diameter conductor bore is adapted to receive a sizing unit to downsize one side of the sleeve member in a manner similar to the foregoing. In this case, a relatively smaller diameter one of a pair of different diameter elongated conductors is firmly mechanically coupled and in electrical communication with a relatively larger diameter conductor.

The wrap (20) is more elastic or stretchable at, near, or along at least some of its sides (22, 24) compared to at, near, or along its centre, to provide strain relief from wrapped to unwrapped aorta. The wrap (20) is not inelastic, so that loss of aortic compliance is minimised or enhanced. The wrap (20) is adapted to apply, in use, less compressive force at, near, or along at least some of its sides (22, 24) compared to at, near, or along its centre.

Button style cord connector

This invention pertains to a cord connector that both seals and provides strain relief automatically upon wire insertion. The cord connector comprises a wire passageway through a pliable shell which seals around both the wire inserted through the passageway as well as the knock-out or wall opening into which the connector is secured. A more rigid skeleton supports this shell and is provided with appendages which permit the wire to pass through the passageway but which block or resist any removal of the wire from the passageway. Preferably the shell is overmolded over the skeleton for ease of manufacture.

Method and apparatus for modular design, manufacturing and implementation of multi-function active optical cables

A method of modular design / manufacturing of active optical cables (AOC) enables multiple functions with minimal non-recurring engineering. Customized AOCs combine standardized interface boards, hybrid cable assemblies, and connector assemblies into various combinations to implement the required functions. Standardized boards support various data types. Conversion of electrical data types to / from optical signals are transmitted over the AOC. Connections to the boards use board connectors attached to a ruggedized connector. Customized connections are made by changing the layout of a customizable interconnect board attached to the ruggedized connector without significant design, verification and / or qualification. Standardized boards using a mother board manage the boards and monitor board health. Power isolation, regulation, and / or distribution to other boards are handled on the mother board or a dedicated power board. Modular AOCs are customized to different connectors and / or pin-outs, combinations of electrical data, and / or power distribution requirements with minimal redesign and / or requalification.
