User Interface Methods and Apparatus for Roaming Access to Subscription Services

A subscriber or other user is provided with access to a subscription service of a signal distribution system at a roaming location remote from a home location of the user. The subscription service comprises a plurality of selectable channels available to the user at the home location. In one aspect of the invention, a request for initiation of a roaming session is received, and responsive to initiation of the roaming session, at least one user interface is generated for presentation on a device at the remote location. The generated user interface is configured to provide access at the remote location to one or more of the channels available to the user at the home location, and represents an at least partial alteration of a normal user interface that would otherwise be presented on the device at the remote location in the absence of the roaming session.

Modularized interface and related method for connecting plug-in electric vehicles to the energy grid

This invention is directed to a modularized interface for connecting a plug-in electric vehicle to the energy grid. For use with public or semi-public outlets, the modularized interface comprises a module and a smart socket, where the module is integrated within or capable of being connected to, the vehicle's charging interface. The module is normally disabled, but is enabled only after the end user is authenticated, the smart socket and its associated meter have been identified, and the module and the end user's account with the local utility are validated. The module meters the energy consumption, and, when the module is disconnected from the smart socket, indicating termination of the charging session, the metered data is communicated to the utility for updating the end user's account, and the module is disabled. The module is also capable of use with conventional outlets located, for example, in private residences.

Side Mirrow System With Video Display

An apparatus that provides an electronic image of areas around sides and rear of a large tractor trailer rig produced on a weatherproof screen that is located on the lower portion of the driver's side mirror. One (1) camera would be located on the rear of the trailer in a center mounted position, while another camera would be located on a passenger side near the front of the vehicle so that it can see the entire side of the vehicle. The cameras would be equipped with fixed wide-angle lenses. The video signal from each camera would be routed to an automatic switcher that displays each signal for a pre-determined time or allows for the manual selection of either camera on a permanent basis. The video signal is then displayed on the weatherproof monitor portion of the side view mirror. In such a manner the truck driver can look at the mirror and the monitor in order to see all three (3) sides of the vehicle at once. This feature eliminates looking in various directions to check for obstructions while backing up or changing lanes.

Apparatus and method for location specific authentication using powerline networking

A mechanism for ensuring the physical location of data processing devices as a security check is provided. With this mechanism, security data is transmitted to data processing devices via an electrical network and is used to perform a security check to determine if the data processing device may operate. The data processing devices may be limited such that they may only power-up, boot-up, or remain operational when they are coupled to the electrical network. Thus, they must be physically located such that they may gain access to the electrical network. In addition, a security check may be used to control which data processing devices may communicate data packets with one another over the data network. When a data packet is received by a data processing device, security data in the data packet is compared against a local history of security data received by the recipient of the data packet via the electrical network. If matching security data is found in the history for the same time represented by an associated timestamp, then the sending data processing device and the receiving data processing device are determined to be present on the same electrical network and may communicate with one another.

Key retaining lock apparatus

An apparatus having two barrel and tumbler locks which are longitudinally overlapped and conjoined to operate in combination with each other. When the first lock is moved to an open position it becomes frozen with the key snagged therein. The second lock is used to unfreeze and release the key from the first lock. Both locks are of the type having a barrel and tumbler. The first lock has a barrel having a ramped circumferential groove segment having a shallow end portion. A groove wafer extends from the tumbler into this groove. The second release lock has a circumferential groove segment in its barrel similarly having a groove wafer extending from the tumbler into this groove. The groove segments are arranged so that the shallow end portion of the first ramped groove segment meets an end portion of the groove on the second lock so that when the first lock is rotated from a closed position to an open position its groove wafer moves from the ramped groove downwardly into the groove segment in the second barrel, thereby preventing the barrel from being rotated back to an open position to release its key. The first lock may only be released when the groove wafer in the second lock is used to push the first groove wafer out of the groove segment in the second barrel.

Apparatus, method and system for improving network security

Devices, systems and related methods are disclosed for improving operational security of a network and / or network devices, such as wireless access points (APs). In the disclosed systems, a network device is not fully operational until it is attached to a network and downloads sensitive information. The information is stored in the network device so that when the device is disconnected from the network, the sensitive information is erased from the device, making the device inoperative and removing sensitive information, such as passwords, network security keys, or the like. Disabling the network device in this manner not only prevents the theft of sensitive network access information, by also discourages theft of the device itself because it cannot be used on another network without the configuration information. In addition to downloading configuration information, the network device can also download an executable image that is likewise not permanently resident on the device.
