155 results about "Lug nut" patented technology

A lug nut or wheel nut is a fastener, specifically a nut, used to secure a wheel on a vehicle. Typically, lug nuts are found on automobiles, trucks (lorries), and other large vehicles using rubber tires.

Motor vehicle pneumatic jacklift system

A permanently mounted pneumatic jack (jacklift) system for motor vehicles, as well as an impact wrench for removing and installing lug nuts. The system provides a quick and safe means of lifting one or more tires off the ground for replacement of a spare or rotating the tires on a motor vehicle. The present invention comprises two or more (typically four) pneumatic jacks, a system ON / OFF switch, an air compressor, a 120-psi air tank, air lines (hoses), individual jack extend / retract switches, jack position-locking pins, safety-locking pins, and impact wrench. Each jack can be locked in a horizontal stowaway or vertical operational position. The jack is cylindrical shaped with a telescopic body that can be extended or retracted as needed to raise and lower the vehicle. A solid cylindrical lift rod slides inside a cylindrical outer housing with a high-pressure seal means used to maintain pressure on the support rod. A ground support foot (plate) is mounted on the lower end of the solid cylindrical lift rod to provide sufficient traction with the ground to support the lifting process. A quick release air coupler is included on the pneumatic chamber to support the use of an air hose and impact wrench. An extend / retract toggle switch is included on each jack to control a solenoid valve to allow the air to flow into the jack. A quick release safety-locking pin is used to mechanically pin the solid cylindrical lift rod to the outer housing once the desired height is achieved to assure that the vehicle does not fall down in the event of a high-pressure air loss, thereby providing safety to the person(s) working around the vehicle. An air compressor located in the engine compartment of the vehicle is mechanically belt-driven off the engine. A high-pressure air line carries the air to a high-pressure (at least 120-psi) air tank located in the trunk or other suitable storage area on the vehicle. Separate air lines extend from the air tank to the individual jacks.

Hub cap

A hub cap for a vehicular wheel. The hub cap includes a body portion and a wheel coupling portion, both made from a non-metallic material. The wheel coupling portion has circumferentially-spaced lug nut engaging members that are axially alignable with lug nuts extending from the wheel. The lug nut engaging members form a substantially arcuate shape, and are resiliently biased so that upon placement of the hub cap onto a wheel, the lug nuts push the lug nut engaging members in a radial direction. Continued contact between the lug nuts and their corresponding engaging members promotes secure connection between the hub cap and wheel. In one embodiment, the body portion and wheel engaging portion is formed from two separate pieces that are subsequently joined, while in another, they are formed from a single unitary structure to define a one-piece construction.

A multifunction wheel nut cap is used on motor vehicle to indicate loosening and rotation of a lug nut. On large trucks on which the lug nuts have to be frequently torqued to prevent the lug nut from loosening and turning until it drops from the wheel bolt, the indication of rotation and limiting of the rotation prevents the lug nut loss and requires tightening only when there is an indication that the lug has become loose. The Wheel cap nut device gives a visual warning when a nut has become loose. It also prevents water and contaminants from penetrating the lug nut and bolt threads.

Method and apparatus for plating metal parts

ActiveUS20090194422A1Avoid lostMinimizes liquid carry-overCellsCombined useEngineering
A method and apparatus for plating parts like lug nuts or other metal parts that have both an easily plated outside surface as well as a recessed cavity. The invention works in combination with a standard multi-station plating process. Also, a method and apparatus for preventing areas of electrode contact on a part from being non-plated. The present invention drains and plates a part containing a cavity by moving the part from a position where the cavity is facing around 45 degrees down to a position where the cavity is facing around 45 degrees up and then back down at various times during the process. The moving is generally initiated when the rack moving along a track above the fluid tanks encounters a roller. The roller causes a depression bar to activate a mechanical mechanism that shifts the position of the part. Other embodiments of the present invention can also rotate the part on an electrode finger as a roller on the track is encountered by the rack to avoid non-plated regions on the part.
