The method comprises the following steps: carrying out solid fermentation or liquid fermentation on any one propionibacterium selected from Propionibacterium freudenreichii, a Propionibacterium shermanii or other dairy propionibacteria to; enabling propionic acid produced in the fermentation process to react with CaCO3 in a solid culture medium or a liquid culture medium to obtain a calcium propionate, or enabling the propionic acid to directly react with ammonia water fed in a liquid fermenting process to generate an ammonium propionate; and drying a solid base material to produce a solid propionic acid type mildewproof agent comprising the calcium propionate, or concentrating a fermentation liquor to produce a liquid propionic acid type mildewproof agent comprising the ammonium propionate. Because the used strain belongs to the diary propionibacteria and is publicly known as a safe strain, the propionate produced by the method is not required to be separated from propionic acid bacteria, and can be directly used for preventing feeds and grains from being mildewed.
