The sensor detects first data of an event including a directional orientation and a motion of the arrangement. The processor compares the first data to second data to determine if at least one predetermined procedure is to be executed. The second data may include a predetermined threshold range of changes in the directional orientation and the motion. If the predetermined procedure is to be executed, the processor selects the predetermined procedure which corresponds to the event as a function of the first data. Subsequently, the predetermined procedures is executed.

The disclosure generally relates to a method and apparatus for Low-Energy Bluetooth (BLE) synchronization. In one embodiment, the disclosure enables BLE devices enabled with both BLE and IEEE 802.11 radios to synchronization using a non-BLE beacon signal. The beacon signal and available shared information between corresponding BLE devices are used to synchronize the BLE devices. In an exemplary method, the first BLE device receives a beacon signal having a reference timestamp and determines a first time-offset as a function of the reference timestamp. The first BLE device then selects an event time window as a function of the first time-offset and conducts a BLE event (advertising or scanning) during the event time window. The second BLE device also uses the beacon signal and the shared information to complement the first device's event by one of advertising or scanning.

Methods and systems are provided for efficient and secure “Machine-to-Machine” (M2M) between modules and servers. A module can communicate with a server by accessing the Internet, and the module can include a sensor and/or actuator. The module and server can utilize public key infrastructure (PKI) such as public keys to encrypt messages. The module and server can use private keys to generate digital signatures for datagrams sent and decrypt messages received. The module can internally derive pairs of private/public keys using cryptographic algorithms and a set of parameters. A server can use a shared secret key to authenticate the submission of derived public keys with an associated module identity. For the very first submission of a public key derived the module, the shared secret key can comprise a pre-shared secret key which can be loaded into the module using a pre-shared secret key code.

Embodiments of the invention comprise systems and methods for using the geographic location of networked consumer electronics devices as indications of occupancy of a structure for purposes of automatically adjusting the temperature setpoint on a thermostatic HVAC control. At least one thermostat is located inside a structure and is used to control an HVAC system in the structure. At least one mobile electronic device is used to indicate the state of occupancy of the structure. The state of occupancy is used to alter the setpoint on the thermostatic HVAC control to reduce unneeded conditioning of unoccupied spaces.
