The invention relates to a network equipment energy-saving method supporting frequency-modulation and consumption reduction. The method includes the following steps that firstly, a function module is considered as a unit, and the function modules are classified into a frequency-modulation region or a non-frequency-modulation region according to whether the function modules have frequency-modulation capacity or not; secondly, a
clock domain crossing interface is designed, the asynchronous
clock communication among the frequency-modulation modules and among the frequency-modulation modules and the non-frequency-modulation modules is finished; finally, a frequency
arbiter makes a frequency-modulation decision according to the using condition and the multi-threshold frequency-modulation strategy of the
clock domain crossing interface and gives out a corresponding
clock signal or a
control signal to achieve frequency switching. By means of the method, the working frequency of the function module inside a network device can be adjusted according to the network load, the
electricity consumption of the network device can be reduced greatly without affecting the user experience, the applicability of the network environment is good, the requirements of current network operators, equipment firms and users for the functions of
