Display illumination system and method

The present invention provides automatic adjustments to an image presentation based upon changes in ambient light. The adjustments can be made to the back-lighting and / or the pixel data. The ambient lighting can be measured by a variety of sensors (e.g., a digital camera) from a variety of orientations. For example, the sensor can be directed away from the display (e.g., towards the user) or the sensor can be directed towards the display (e.g., from an angle comparable to the users view). In one exemplary implementation a graphics control system utilizes real time ambient light sampling input to calibrate a back-light illumination level and / or pixel illumination levels. The present invention can be implemented in a variety of devices (e.g., laptop, PDA, cell phone, headsup display, etc.).

Dynamic image presentation

One or more techniques and / or systems are disclosed for efficiently organizing images in a display. A size of an image is scaled by an image scale factor, while an aspect ratio for the image is maintained, where the image scale factor comprises a combination of a first scale distance and a second scale distance. The scaled image is filled into a first display line, if the size of the scaled image is not greater than an amount of display space remaining in the first display line; otherwise the scaled image is filled into a second display line. The image is expanded to mitigate white space in the display after the scaling, while maintaining the image's aspect ratio. This can be performed for a collection of images presented on a display to provide an enhanced user experience.

Facilities are provided herein for authenticating a user to use a processing device. A user predefines authenticators of one or more types and associates these with graphical images. Upon on attempt to activate the processing device, a graphical image, of the graphical images, is selected for presentation to the user. The selected graphical image is presented to the user, who then provides input to authenticate with the device. A determination is made as to whether the user is authenticated to use the device. The determination is made based on input received from the user and based further on the authenticator associated with the selected graphical image. Varying the selection of image(s), each associated with a predefined authenticator and authentication type, enables variability in the authenticator that is suitable for unlocking a device at a given time, providing greater security to the authentication process.

Foreground segmentation method applied to mobile communication network transmission

The invention provides a foreground segmentation method applied to mobile communication network transmission and belongs to the field of image processing and communication network transmission. Five background templates with the shooting time intervals to be consistent with image acquisition intervals in the case of operation are pre-stored, and the former four background templates are used for fine detection in the case when a target is detected coarsely. The difference region area between the monitored image and the background image is calculated to judge whether a target enters, the image does not need to be transmitted when the target does not exist, the target region is segmented when the target exists, and the target region is only transmitted. The received target region is fused in the pre-stored background image by a server for video playing or image presentation. In a shooting mode, in order to prevent a passerby from being judged to be an obstacle, the target is set to be transmitted to the server only when the target is extracted by a third party according to the scene length, the human walking speed and the monitoring shooting frequency. Background replacement can be timely carried out after each time of segmentation cycle acquisition is finished, and interference caused by light and other environmental changes can be overcome in a slow transition way.
