The invention provides a nickel based boron free brazing material and a method for preparing the same, which relates to metal alloy. The invention provides a nickel based boron free brazing material which has the advantages of a melting temperature of 1000 to 1150 DEG C, good wettability, no boron, application to stainless steel braze welding, low material cost, simple preparation process, short cycle, good replacement of the conventional boron containing nickel based brazing material and a method for preparing the same. The brazing material comprises the following components in weight percentage: 0 to 4 percent of chrome, 2 to 4 percent of silicon, 13 to 16 percent of zirconium, 21 to 30 percent of tin, the balance being nickel. The components such as chrome and the like are cleaned, alloyed by the arc melting in the presence of an inert gas to a button-shaped sample, preliminarily cut to a bar-shape and packaged in a quartz tube, the quartz tube is filled with the inert gas to a packaged sample, and the packaged sample is put in a reaction furnace for the relief annealing heat treatment to obtain a bar-shaped sample after heat treatment; and, the bar-shaped sample after heat treatment is cut to a needed shape by a linear cutting method so as to obtain the nickel based boron free brazing material.
