A method for automatically classifying images into events for composing and authoring of a multimedia image program on a recordable optical disc comprises the steps of: (a) receiving a plurality of images having either or both date and/or time of image capture; (b) determining one or more largest time differences of the plurality of images based on clustering of the images; (c) separating the plurality of images into events based on having one or more boundaries between events which one or more boundaries correspond to the one or more largest time differences; (d) specifying at least one multimedia feature that is related to each event; (e) encoding the images between event boundaries and the at least one multimedia feature associated therewith into an event bitstream; and (f) writing each event bitstream to the recordable optical disc, whereby each event is authored into a separate section of the recordable optical disc.

Information indicative of disk-applicable recording speeds is incorporated in lead-out start time information within ATIP information that is recorded in pre-grooves located in a lead-in area of an optical disk. Once the optical disk is inserted in an optical disk recording device, the lead-out start time information is read out, so that recording is performed on the optical disk after a recording speed is automatically set to a highest settable speed value within a range specified by the read-out lead-out start time information. This arrangement can reliably prevent recording at speeds beyond predetermined limit values unique to the optical disk.

An opical disc recording method, comprises the steps of: a) forming a record signal in accordance with input information; b) generating a recording laser beam modulated with the record signal; c) controlling a laser radiation time at a record power for a 16× or higher write-speed to be (n+K)T for a pit length nT, where n=three to eleven, K is a constant (0≦K≦1.6), and T is a unit time corresponding to a pit length or a land length at a write-speed; and d) radiating the recording laser beam alternately at the recording power for the controlled radiating time to form pits and at a non-recording power to form lands toward a record surface of a recordable optical disc.

A method is designed for writing new information subsequently to an end of previous information written in a track of a record medium having a pre-recorded signal along the track. A method of determining a recording power for a recordable optical disk in an optical disk system is provided. The method is capable of minimizing the time taken to determine an optimum recording power for each recording speed and thus improve recording performance.

User data is recorded in a physical block used as a single unit, and the space bit map is recorded in the management information area. A user apparatus having a version of a database and an update date and time stored on the recordable optical disc communicates with a server which stores information for updating the database and an update date and time. In one embodiment of the present invention an apparatus and method is disclosed for recording audio/video information onto a compact disc recorder in real-time. The present invention is to realize a proper inner zone layout in an optical disk having at least three layers. A recordable compact disc production line comprises a frame, a conveying belt arranged on the frame, and a dye spin-coating device, an oven-drying device, a sputtering device and an edge washing device which are sequentially arranged on the frame from front to back along the compact disc substrate conveying direction of the conveying belt, wherein a disc feeding mechanism is arranged on the frame in a position corresponding to the front end of the conveying belt; a disc collection mechanism is arranged on the frame in a position corresponding to the rear end of the conveying belt; the support surface of a compact disc substrate base on the conveying belt on the work surface of the conveying belt is in the horizontal direction; the oven-drying device includes an oven-drying rotary table; and the support surface of a second compact disc substrate base on the oven-drying rotary table is in the horizontal direction. Disclosed are embodiments of an ink cartridge that includes therein a print head for dispensing ink onto a media, a movement mechanism for enabling movement of the print head, and/or an ink service station. In one embodiment, the cartridge is designed to be inserted into a receptacle so that the cartridge and receptacle form a radial printing system. The receptacle may also include a motion actuator for engaging with the movement mechanism of the cartridge to thereby move the print head of the cartridge. Provided is a digital broadcast receiver capable of displaying a message, a list of titles of contents or the like together with a viewing screen without interrupting viewing of contents. The digital broadcast receiver includes a controller 25 configured to determine whether an optical disc inserted into the receiver is a read-only optical disc or a recordable optical disc and also to control a display screen. Upon insertion of an optical disc, the controller 25 causes a display screen including a first display area and a second display area to be displayed, the first display area displaying digital broadcast or external input contents, the second display area displaying a message indicating that the optical disc is being prepared. In a case where the optical disc is a read-only optical disc, the controller 25 causes only a playback screen of contents recorded in the optical disc to be displayed upon completion of the preparation of the optical disc. In a case where the optical disc is a recordable disc, the controller 25 causes a list of titles of contents recorded in the optical disc to be further displayed in the second display area, and deletes the message in the second display area upon completion of the preparation of the optical disc.

A process for manufacturing a recordable optical disk including forming a back rewritable layer and depositing a transparent intercalary layer on the back rewritable layer, and forming a front rewritable layer including a metallic alloy and a cermet dielectric such that the front rewritable layer has a transmission rate greater than or equal to about 45%, and a recordable optical disk including a substrate and an active layer including a cermet, wherein the active layer covers at least one back rewritable layer and the active cermet layer has a transmission rate greater than or equal to about 45%.
