One method accepts a composite score definition in terms of N system variables, wherein N≧2; determines N raw data values, each raw data value corresponding to one of the N system variables; computes the composite score in accordance with the definition using the N raw data values as inputs; and outputs the composite score. The composite score definition is preferably in the form of a markup language, such as XML. The composite score definition preferably comprises, for each of the N system variables, a mapping and a weight. Preferably the composite score is displayed in at least one graphic form, such as a dial gauge, a bar indicator or a number, on a hypertext page. The hypertext page preferably contains one or more links to hypertext pages containing information regarding the scores and / or raw data values from which the composite score is derived. The composite score is conveyed by way of the output. Preferably, the data collector comprises a database in which at least some of the raw data values are stored and a communication module by which at least some of the raw data values are transported, preferably according to the SNMP and / or the ICMP protocols. Another apparatus comprises a mapping, a data collector, a converter and an output. A raw data value associated with a corresponding system variable is mapped to a score, according to the mapping.

A photonic structure for “white” light generation by phosphors under the excitation of a LED. The photonic structure mounts the LED and an optically transparent nanocomposite matrix having dispersed therein phosphors which will emit light under the excitation of the radiation of the LED. The phosphors dispersed in the matrix may be nanocrystalline, or larger sized with the addition of non light emitting, non light scattering nanoparticles dispersed within the matrix material so as to match the index of refraction of the matrix material to that of the phosphors. The nanocomposite matrix material may be readily formed by molding and formed into a variety of shapes including lenses for focusing the emitted light. A large number of the photonic structures may be arranged on a substrate to provide even illumination or other purposes.

The method further includes transferring the casing string to a second depth in the main wellbore that is less than the first depth, disposing a first temporary plug in the main wellbore at the second depth to prevent gas from flowing up the main wellbore past the second depth, transferring the casing string to a third depth in the main wellbore that is less than the second depth, and drilling, with the drill bit, a second lateral wellbore at the third depth.

The phase signals are input to a pulse generator which outputs a plurality of pulses. The pulses are input to a selector which selects which signal to output at any point in time. By controlling the selector, the output clock is generated as a TDM based signal. Any spurs are removed by an optional filter.

A virtual tech rep system that can assist in reducing service call visits and customer complaints by readily analyzing image quality of an output image device, such as a copier or printer. The system generates a hardcopy test pattern output from the copier or printer and then scans the test pattern using either the platen of the digital copier or an external scanner to form a digital raster image. Test targets in the digital raster image are then determined using pattern recognition software and image quality analysis is then performed on the test targets based on the sensitivity of the human visual system. It is preferable that the image quality analysis is based on human vision systems rather than a direct comparison between original and printed images as many differences may go unnoticed by a human viewer whereas other types of differences may be readily noticed, even if only slight. The system optionally sends the test results and possibly part or all of the scanned test pattern to a service or diagnostic facility (remote or local) for further analysis when potential defects are identified. This process may be performed at start-up or automatically initiated after a predetermined number of operating cycles or hours of use have been attained.

In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a method for drilling a lateral wellbore from a slant well includes drilling the slant well below the surface of the earth such that the slant well is angled toward a first horizontal direction that coincides with a desired drilling direction for the lateral wellbore. The slant well has a borehole wall that includes a high side portion closest to the surface, a low side portion farthest from the surface, and two side portions between the high side portion and the low side portion. The method further includes disposing a casing string in the slant well, disposing a drill string having a bent sub, a mud motor, and a drill bit coupled at a lower end thereof in the casing string, and positioning the drill bit adjacent either one of the side portions or the low side portion. The method further includes drilling, from either the side portion or the low side portion, an intermediate wellbore with the drill bit, and drilling, from the intermediate wellbore, the lateral wellbore in the desired drilling direction.

The signals are then logically combined using XOR operations to obtain I and Q branch signals containing spectral spurs. Since the spurs are located in non-disturbing bands, they can be filtered out resulting in the desired output signal.

Method and system for evaluating friction coefficient and skid resistence of a surface

The invention is one method for evaluating sliding resistance of surface. The evaluation standard from different test methods is not unified, which brings a lot of inconvenience to the detection and evaluation of pavement sliding resistance. The invention is conducted to improve the traditional friction coefficient-based evaluation method and expand the applicable scope. The invention provides a method to acquire both macro and micro texture morphology of pavement at the same time, which can be used to measure characteristics of a surface topology. Based on the 3D texture morphology, texture morphology-based characterization indicators about the aspects of height, wavelength and shape are established, respectively. The invention also provides one relational model for expressing the relationship between friction coefficients and texture indicators. Additionally, the invention introduces IFI (international friction index) to build the evaluation system of pavement sliding resistance completely based on the 3D texture. The proposed evaluation system based on texture overcomes the disadvantages that the restrictions of friction coefficient-based evaluation method are strong. The proposed evaluation system is simple to operate and implement. It can directly finish the evaluation of pavement sliding resistance only needing to acquire pavement texture. It also combines with the advantages of IFI evaluation system, which is conducive to harmonize and unify different detection equipments of pavement sliding resistance.
