Lancing device and method of sample collection

A lancing device and method for self-collecting a sample of body fluid by penetrating a body tissue at a sampling site. The invention includes a housing geometry configured for ease of use at different sampling sites on the body, even by persons having reduced dexterity and / or poor vision. Depth of penetration is selectively controlled by adjusting the stroke range of a spring-driven lancet carrier. A pressure applicator is included for stimulating flow of the body fluid. A transparent portion permits observation of the sampling site.

Method and device for the extraction of a body fluid

The present invention provides a method and a device for piercing a body part and determining whether a sufficient volume of blood has been withdrawn. A lancing element is rapidly inserted into a body part in a forward phase and retracted quickly to a lesser puncturing depth. Subsequently, the lancing element is retracted slower than during the first retraction movement and the distance retracted during the second retraction is shorter than the first retraction movement. During the second retraction movement, body fluid is collected in a collection phase by a capillary structure of the lancing element. Contact between the lancing element and the body fluid is detected after the forward phase at the beginning and the end of a waiting period.

Microneedle based transdermal drug delivery device and method

A minimal pain microneedle based transdermal drug delivery device and method. The device has a clamshell configuration, where the top part of the clamshell holds one or more chambers configured to store liquid drugs, and also configured to store one or more spring operated plungers, and at least one microneedle. The top portion of the device is attached to the bottom portion of the device by a combination hinge and a moveable shutter mechanism. In its shut position, the shutter mechanism prevents the plungers from moving, and the open shutter position releases the plunger. When the user applies the bottom of the device to the user's skin and presses on the top portion with enough force to overcome a detent mechanism, the top portion pivots against the bottom portion forcing the microneedle through an aperture and into the skin painlessly. Pressing on the shutter mechanism then results in drug self-administration.

Tooth Loosening And Removal Apparatus With A Motion Transfer Member

An apparatus including a transducer head and a motion transfer member, and a method for rupturing connective tissues that attach a tooth to an alveolar bone socket are provided. The transducer head generates and transfers vibrational and tapping movements to the motion transfer member. The motion transfer member, extending from the transducer head via a neck of a transducer assembly, includes a ball projection and a flexible member. The ball projection connected to a distal end of the neck transfers the generated vibrational and tapping movements received from the transducer head to the tooth. The flexible member housing and surrounding the ball projection contacts a tooth surface and generally conforms to a shape of the tooth to distribute the generated vibrational and tapping movements uniformly in multiple directions on the tooth to rupture the connective tissues and allow the tooth to be loosened and removed from the alveolar bone socket.

Absorbent Material

This invention relates to absorbent materials useful in the manufacture of absorbent articles, in particular dressings for the advanced wound care market. The absorbent materials of the present invention are sulfonated polysaccharides, particularly water-insoluble cellulose alkyl sulfonates in which the cellulose is substituted by one type of alkyl sulfonate group. The invention also provides a process for the manufacture of such materials. The preferred cellulose alkyl sulfonate described herein is cellulose ethyl sulfonate. Reinforcing fibers and / or antimicrobial agents are optionally applied to the cellulose alkyl sulfonate.

Scrape and sweep frictional tissue sampling and collection method and device

In an embodiment of the invention, a frictional tissue sampling device with a head designed to be swept across or rotated without rotating off the designated site can be used to remove and obtain cell and tissue biopsy samples. A frictional tissue sampling device with a head designed to be applied to a designated site can be used to remove cells or debride tissue from, or obtain an epithelial or sub-epithelial tissue biopsy sample from lesions. The device can be otherwise used to sample specific locations. In various embodiments, the head of the device is coated with an abrasive frictional material on a platform applicator or gloved finger. The applicator tip may be trumpet shaped, propeller shaped, cone shaped, capsule shaped, narrow, or tapered, covered with a facet that can be round, diamond shaped, oval, or another geometric shape to match the device contour in contact with a tissue surface. The facet contour on applicator or finger can be concave, convex or flat. The abrasive material may exist coincidentally with a second absorptive material, which can be adherent anywhere on the applicator. The absorptive material is placed as to not oppose or contact the abrasive material. The abrasive material contacts the target tissue with the aim of scraping and dislodging tissue and cells, then sweeping and collecting the dislodged tissue and cells from the tissue surface, within the second absorptive material.

According to one aspect, the fibers of a relatively weak muscle to be strengthened are exposed to a local anesthetic drug such as bupivacaine. The concentration and volume of the local anesthetic drug are sufficient to causes the muscle to enlarge and become stronger. In one embodiment, the increased strength of the treated muscle improved the position and the movement of the eye to which it was attached. The local anesthetic drug may be injected into the fibers of the muscle or infused around the muscle.

Customizable Tattoo Stamp for Permanent Multicolor Tattoo on Skin

The present invention is a big step forward from the traditional method of drawing a tattoo on human skin, which requires a skilled artist to use the tattoo machine comprising a single needle to deposit ink single injection by single injection. The disclosed invention comprises of a customizable needle substrate, a charging unit, an image processor unit, an ink roller and may be an injection device, to print a permanent multicolor image on the human skin using an instantaneous method of injecting the ink at desired depth in a human skin, resulting in an image or tattoo on the human skin. The method also causes less pain in comparison to the traditional method of tattoo making, as the process is relatively quick. Furthermore, the disclosed invention reduces the dependency on a skilled artist to draw a tattoo on the human skin.

Dental prosthesis for cattle and method for mounting it

A dental prosthesis for cattle, and method for mounting it, that includes mounting fastening members in the animals incisor, away from the central nerve and towards in the inner side of the incisor. Tying the incisors individually with surgical wire and to a support plate with through holes to immobilize the relative movement of the incisor with respect to each other. A malleable metallic overdenture is then mounted over the teeth and metallic infrastructure conforming to the incisors to define a conforming overdenture. An adhesive bonding agent is used to mount the overdenture to the incisors and the anchorage structure with retention fastening members that transversally pass through the overdenture and between the incisors to further secure the overdenture to the cured boding agent.
