Disclosed is a method of tailoring infant formulas to individual nutrition needs prior to use. The method comprises (A) determining the desired volume and optimal caloric density of a formula to be fed to a preterm or low birth weight infant; (B) obtaining a plurality of base infant formulas, all in liquid form, comprising fat, protein, carbohydrate, vitamins, and minerals, each of which has an osmolality of from about 200 to about 360 mOsm/kg water and a different caloric density within a range of from about 609 to about 1082 kcal/L; (C) selecting two of the base liquid formulas having a caloric density value above and below the optimal caloric density, (D) calculating the volume of each selected base formula needed to produce the desired volume of an infant formula blend having the optimal caloric density; (E) combining the calculated volumes to produce a an isotonic blend having the desired feeding volume and optimal caloric density. The formula is then fed to the preterm or low birth weight infant. Also disclosed is a hypercaloric infant formula suitable for use in the disclosed method, and infant formula kits comprising the plurality of base formulas and a device (e.g. calculator, computer program, chart with precalculated blend volumes) for calculating blend volumes.

Sand mold milling method based on industrial robot

The invention relates to a method for adopting an industrial robot to carry out the ordinary sand mold milling processing, which pertains to the filed of the cross technology of casting, numeric control processing and the industrial robot. The steps of the method of the invention are that: a tool and a planned milling path are selected according to the shape of a sand mold to be processed, the generated NC code is translated into a control code of the robot according to a motion model of the industrial robot, thus realizing the gesture control of the robot during the processing process, carrying out the milling of a sand lump and finally carrying out the post-processing of the sand lump after the processing. Compared with the existing traditional casting mold processing method, the processing method of the invention can save the manufacturing link of the mold, reduce the processing procedure, shorten the production period and reduce the production cost; compared with the machine tool-based sand mold milling processing method, the processing method of the invention has larger processing range and higher processing flexibility, in particular to a motion guide track without the need of carrying out the strict sand control protection. The method of the invention is especially applicable to the single and small-batch processing and manufacturing of the large-scale sand mold.

An apparatus and a method for X-ray fluorescence analysis of a mineral sample is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an X-ray source (2) for generating an X-ray beam to irradiate the mineral sample; at least one fluorescence detector (4,5) for measuring fluorescent radiation emitted by the mineral sample when irradiated by the X-ray beam; and a processing unit for providing an analysis of the mineral sample based on the measurements made by the at least one fluorescence detector (4,5). Further, the apparatus comprises a sample container (3) arranged to hold the mineral sample during the irradiation, wherein the sample container is arranged to provide at least two different irradiation paths through said mineral sample during irradiation. An advantage with this arrangement is that it enables analysis of elements having a wide range of atomic numbers in a single sample with improved reliability and accuracy. This results in maximized detectability for a wide range of elements, while reducing the number of samples that needs to be prepared. The present invention also leads to simplified sample preparation, and to a faster and more cost-efficient analysis. This makes the apparatus particularly useful for field use.
