A method and apparatus assisting safe one-handed insertion of an implant. An implant implantation device has a frame which includes a trigger mechanism, an outer sleeve mechanically coupled to the frame, an inner shaft having a grabber for mechanically engaging an implant, the inner shaft slidably disposed within the outer sleeve, and a retaining element disposed over the inner shaft for directing the grabber toward a closed position. An implant clip has a first member, a second member pivotally coupled to the first member, a first implant holder pivotally coupled to the first member, the coupling causing the implant clip to have a closed position and an open position, and a second implant holder, the second implant holder pivotally coupled to the second member, a surface of the first implant holder and a surface of the second implant holder remaining substantially parallel to each other while the first member and the second member pivot between the closed position and the open position.

A blender for home or commercial use that is rugged enough to blend frozen beverages, simple to use and safe. The blender includes an upper housing with a front housing door that covers the moving blending machinery. The blender also includes a cupholder receiving area which allows the user to safely insert a frozen food or beverage cup inside a cupholder for blending. After the start button is pressed, the cup and cupholder will be lifted together for blending in a balanced, linear motion by an elevator assembly. As the cupholder is lifted upward, a cover will be pressed over the top opening of the inserted cup to prevent spillage during blending. The elevator assembly continues to lift the cupholder upward until the rotating cutter blades of a spindle assembly cut through successive layers of the frozen food or beverage. To facilitate cleaning, the spindle assembly is preferably removable from the blender through use of a quick release coupling mechanism.

An oropharyngeal airway for use during diagnostic and surgical procedures, comprising a body with a proximal and a distal end. The distal end is sized for insertion through a protective bite block disposed in a patient's mouth. Both sides of the distal end are tapered to a curved distal edge. A flange is transversely opposed at the proximal end, preventing the proximal end from moving through the protective bite block and into the patient's mouth. An elliptically-arched channel in the shape of a lingual contour extends from the proximal end to the distal end. The channel includes a pair of tapered upstanding walls that guide the passage of a surgical instrument through the space between them. The oropharyngeal airway can be constructed of recyclable or biodegradable materials and is compatible with protective bite blocks of all sizes.

A fastening device comprising a main portion having a base end portion and a distal end portion wherein its base end is attached to a head intended to be in contact with a rim at the outer side of an aperture when the fastening device is located in the aperture. The main portion is provided with guiding elements in order to guide the fastening device when inserted into the aperture and resilient elements which during insertion will be pressed inwards in order to at a later stage, when the resilient elements have passed the rim of the aperture, resiliently move back and thus provide a locking of the fastening device by being in contact with the rim on the inside of the aperture. The guiding element is provided with at least three vanes which are attached at its bases to the head such that they are located at an essentially equidistant spacing from the centre point. The resilient elements are made up by segments which only are attached to the fastening device along one side of the segments to the vanes such that they are protruding from the vanes and extend in a direction towards an adjacent vane.

A cupholder for a blender that is compact enough for home use, rugged enough to blend frozen beverages, simple to use and safe. The cupholder preferably has a generally cylindrically shaped body having a bottom and open top. A cupholder upper lip is preferably formed along the upper edge of the cupholder body. The cupholder upper lip preferably has an overhanging front portion that allows a user to slide his or her fingers underneath the overhang to conveniently push the cupholder into the cupholder receiving area or pull it out. A method for blending food or beverages, preferably using a blender that is compact enough for home use, rugged enough to blend frozen beverages, simple to use and safe. The blender includes an upper housing, with a front housing door, that covers the moving blending machinery. The blender also includes a cupholder receiving area which allows the user to safely insert a frozen beverage cup inside a cupholder for blending. After the start button is pressed, a cupholder lip will be grasped by the clamping jaw of an elevator assembly to lift the cupholder up. As the cupholder is lifted upward, a cover will be pressed over the top opening of the inserted cup to prevent spillage during blending. The elevator assembly will then continue to lift the cupholder upward until the rotating cutter blades of a spindle assembly cut through successive layers of the frozen beverage.

A method of making a ready-to-use catheter assembly is provided, which can be immediately used by a patient. The ready-to-use catheter assembly ensures that the catheter does not suffer from a loss of quality during its shelf life and a wetting medium are provided. The method comprises: placing a catheter with an inactivated hydrophilic outer surface at least along its insertable length and a wetting medium in a catheter package; treating the catheter package with the catheter and the wetting medium with electro-magnetic and/or particle radiation while at least initially the hydrophilic outer surface at least along the insertable length of the catheter remains inactivated; and activating the hydrophilic outer surface at least along the insertable length of the catheter with the wetting medium during and/or after the radiation treatment and wherein the wetting medium decreases in viscosity when submitted to electro-magnetic and/or particle radiation.

A system for use in treating a tissue site, e.g., a site exhibiting or at risk for developing compartment syndrome, the system including a monitor for use in controlling the function and operation of one or more apparatuses providing insertable catheters. The system includes at least one apparatus having a catheter portion that includes both a suitably protected, functional device tip, adapted to be positioned and used within the tissue site, and one or more hollow fiber membranes, e.g., an array of such membranes, adapted to be positioned within the tissue site in order to simultaneously collect fluid therefrom. The catheter portion is adapted to be safely inserted and positioned within the tissue site, in a manner that permits it to function there while substantially minimizing direct impingement of the non-fluid tissue on the functional device tip surface.

Disclosed herein is a portable hydraulic press comprising a c-frame having a throat and first and second ends, the first and second ends locatable about a part to be pressed and a receiving structure. The press also includes a hydraulic assembly coupled to the c-frame and having a hydraulic ram configured to move through the first end and towards and away from an interior surface of the second end of the c-frame when the press is operated. It further includes a first installation cup coupled to the hydraulic ram, and having engaging surfaces designed to conform to exterior surfaces of an exterior surface of either the part or the receiving structure, and a second installation cup coupled to the interior surface of the second end of the c-frame and having engaging surfaces designed to conform to exterior surfaces of the other of the exterior surface of the part or the receiving structure. A hydraulic pump is coupled to the hydraulic assembly to operate the press.

The present invention relates to a catheter insertion system and method. The system comprises an IV catheter comprising a distal cannula attached to a proximal hollow hub; a forward arm attachably connected to a proximal portion of said IV catheter or element connected thereto, and extending distally therefrom; and a needle configured to pass through and protrude from the cannula.

The present invention relates to a portioning machine for dividing a strand-like product into individual portions and a method of controlling such portioning machine. The portioning machine includes a magazine turret attachment for receiving the strand-like product, a pressing unit for pressure-compacting the strand-like product at least in its longitudinal direction, and a portioning and cutting device for portioning and separating individual portions from the strand-like product. The magazine turret attachment has a base segment and a turret segment which have chute portions oriented coaxially with respect to one another for forming at least one reception chute for the strand-like product and which are rotatable about a common axis for positioning the reception chute in a cutting position; and wherein the pressing unit for pressure-compacting the strand-like product has at least one pressure ram and a counter-pressure element. The counter-pressure element is a slide element arranged between the base segment and the turret segment of the magazine turret attachment and is reversibly movable in a direction at least approximately perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the magazine turret attachment between a release position and a closure position for unblocking or closing the reception chute placed in the cutting position.
