Various electrically controlled devices of a bicycle are electrically coupled together by multi-conductor electrical cords. The ends of the electrical cords have an electrical connector that mates with a corresponding electrical connector provided in one of the electrically controlled devices. Each electrical connector of the electrical cords has an electrical contact housing with electrical contacts, an outer casing molded about the electrical contact housing, and an annular sealing member formed of a resilient and compressible material. The outer casing has an attachment portion fixed to one end of the electrical contact housing and a tubular portion radially spaced from the other end of the electrical contact housing. The annular sealing member is located in an annular space formed between the tubular portion and the electrical contact housing.

Bicycle pedal

The bicycle pedal includes a pedal shaft, a pedal body and an abrasive sheet coupled to a shoe engagement surface to enhance engagement of the pedal with a shoe. The pedal body is rotatably coupled to the second end of the pedal shaft. The shoe engagement surface preferably includes a recess with first and second curvatures. The first curvature has a first radius and the second curvature has a second radius larger than the first radius. The abrasive sheet is preferably coupled within the recess. Frictional characteristics are improved by a method including the steps of forming a pedal body with a recess and coupling an abrasive sheet in the recess of the pedal body. The abrasive sheet is positioned to resist peeling of the abrasive sheet from the pedal body. The pedal body can be formed of one or more pieces.

Electrical connector with resilient retaining ring to restrict radial expansion

Various electrically controlled devices of a bicycle are electrically coupled together by multi-conductor electrical cords. Preferably, the ends of the electrical cords have an electrical connector that mates with a corresponding electrical connector of an electrically controlled device. The electrical connectors are designed to be coupled together by a snap fit. Each electrical connector attached to the end of the electrical cord has an electrical contact housing with electrical contacts and an outer casing molded about the electrical contact housing to form a tubular portion radially spaced from the outer end of the electrical contact housing. A retaining ring is located in an annular groove formed in an exterior surface of the outer casing to provide an additional coupling force. Preferably, an annular sealing member formed of a resilient and compressible material is located in an annular space formed between the tubular portion and the electrical contact housing.

Bicycle hub with threaded spacer and detachable freewheel

A bicycle hub includs a hub axle, a hub body, a sprocket support member and a spacer. The hub axle has first and second portions threadedly coupled together via a first threaded connection. The hub body has an outer tubular portion and an interior passageway with the first portion of the hub axle rotatably supported therein. The sprocket support member is releasably and non-rotatably coupled to the outer tubular portion and is mounted on the second portion of the hub axle. The spacer is non-rotatably and axially movably supported on the first portion of the hub axle and is threadedly coupled to the hub body via a second threaded connection. The first and second threaded connections are configured such that rotation of the hub axle to release the first and second portions causes the spacer to move axially toward the hub body.

A bicycle rim is provided with an annular metallic rim member and at least one reinforcing resin material. The annular metallic rim member includes an annular tire attachment portion adapted to have a tire mounted thereon, a first annular side wall portion, a second annular side wall portion and an inner annular wall portion connecting the first and second annular side wall portions with a plurality of spoke attachment openings formed in the inner annular wall portion. The at least one reinforcing resin material is attached to the annular metallic rim member such that the reinforcing resin material continuously extends from the first annular side wall portion across the inner annular wall portion to the second annular side wall portions to overlie exterior surface areas of the first and second annular side wall portions and exterior surface areas of the inner annular wall portion around the spoke attachment openings.

Bicycle rim

A hollow bicycle rim a plurality of tubular reinforcement members coupled to the inner and outer openings. Each of the reinforcement members has an internal abutment surface within an internal passageway designed to engage an enlarged head of a spoke to couple spokes to the rim. The inner and outer ends of the reinforcement members are secured to the inner and outer openings to prevent inner and outward movement of the reinforcement members, respectively. Each reinforcement member preferably has a pre-formed retaining surface and one or more deformed retaining surface to prevent inner and outer movement. Optionally, each reinforcement member can include a threaded connection instead of one or more the deformed retaining surfaces. Seal members are optionally mounted in the reinforcement members so that a tubeless tire can be used.

The annular metallic rim member has a plurality of spoke attachment arcas with at least one spoke attachment opening in each of the spoke attachment areas and a plurality of intermediate areas disposed between adjacent pairs of the spoke attachment areas. The reinforcing member extends circumferentially about the annular metallic rim member to overlie the spoke attachment areas of the annular metallic rim member. The reinforcing member has a plurality of discrete spoke attachment area reinforcing parts overlying a corresponding one of the spoke attachment areas of the annular metallic rim member. The reinforcing member also has a rim reinforcing part overlying the intermediate areas of the annular metallic rim member and at least partially overlying the discrete spoke attachment area reinforcing parts.

A bicycle component securing structure includes a shaft, a head, a lever and a pivot pin. The head has a recess with the shaft at least partially disposed therein. The lever has portions disposed on opposite sides of the head. The pivot pin couples the head and the lever to the shaft. The pivot pin has a cam section disposed between first and second end sections. The cam section is disposed within the recess to longitudinally move the shaft relative to the head in response to movement of the lever. The first end section is non-rotatably mounted in a first mating hole of the lever such that the lever and pivot pin rotate together. The first end section has a larger maximum transverse width than the second end section. The second end of the pivot pin is retained within the lever.
