A method of treating a disorder in a patient is provided. The method comprises delivering a stimulation lead within a blood vessel, intralumenally puncturing a wall of the blood vessel to create an exit point, and then introducing the stimulation lead through the exit point into direct contact with tissue the stimulation of which treats the disorder. Optionally, the method comprises implanting a source of stimulation within the patient's body, and then electrically coupling the proximal end of the stimulation lead to the implanted stimulation source. Using the stimulation lead, the tissue can then be stimulated in order to treat the disorder.

A method of treating a neurological disorder in a patient is provided. The method comprises intravascularly delivering a stimulation lead within the head of the patient, and placing the stimulation lead adjacent brain tissue (e.g., cortical brain tissue or deep brain tissue), the stimulation of which will treat the neurological disorder. The stimulation lead can be placed into indirect contact with the brain tissue (e.g., through a blood vessel) or indirect contact with the brain tissue (e.g., when placed within the ventricular cavity or by being introduced through an exit point within a vessel wall). Optionally, the method comprises implanting a source of stimulation within the patient's body, and then electrically coupling the proximal end of the stimulation lead, which conveniently extends from the access point within the circulatory system, to the implanted stimulation source. Using the stimulation lead, the brain tissue can then be stimulated in order to treat the neurological disorder.

A system and methods are disclosed for enhancing license plate recognition (LPR) and vehicle feature recognition processes in automatic vehicle access control, parking management, automatic toll collection and security applications. The system uses optical character recognition (OCR) to read license plates, while utilizing image feature recognition to verify plate reading results, and correct any OCR read errors, thereby increasing system accuracy. The system automatically controls the actuation of one or a plurality of gates/barriers to allow entry and exit of authorized vehicles to or from a premises, a parking lot or a toll station. In the event of failure of the OCR algorithm to identify a license plate of an authorized vehicle at an entry or exit point, the system allows a human operator or the driver/passenger of the said authorized vehicle to override its decision, and allow the vehicle to pass by opening the gate or barrier through external means including card reader, bio-metric scanner, key fob, cell-phone/smart phone, wireless transceiver, electro-mechanical switch/button, or PC/Web based application. This overriding action of opening the gate/barrier through the said external means is used to tune the license plate and vehicle recognition system, causing it to adapt its algorithms to perform better when it encounters the same vehicle again. Besides the above aspect, the present invention discloses fast and memory-efficient methods for image feature matching that are well suited for real-time situations where the set of reference image features is changing with time as new vehicles arrive. In addition to the above aspects, the present invention discloses an LPR database update method that simplifies license plate misread corrections process in the database, thereby improving the accuracy of subsequent database search queries. Furthermore, the present invention discloses methods in an LPR system that account for all the passing traffic by categorizing and recording license plate/vehicle captures as read-plate records, unread-plate records, or vehicles with missing license plates. In addition to the above aspects, the present invention discloses methods for switching between normal and privacy modes of operation and between different security levels.

Protecting an application of a multi-application smart card against unauthorized manipulations. A system and method for guarding against unauthorized modifications includes partitioning the application into a plurality of basic blocks. Basic blocks are programming atomic units that have one entry point and one exit point and comprises a set of data units. For each basic block a check value associated with a basic block is computed wherein the check value is a function of the data units of the basic block. This check value is some how remembered and later recalled and checked either during execution of the corresponding basic block of the application program or prior to execution of the application program. During or prior to execution of the basic block the re-computed check value is verified to be the same as the remembered check value. If not, an error condition is indicated and a corrective action may be taken.

A lightweight directory access protocol workflow management system. The invention converts a logical process into a reusable Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory representation. The directory representation is a hierarchical tree structure where each process element in the process is represented as an LDAP directory entry and is assigned a unique distinguished name and is stored in a Directory Server database or filesystem. The tree structure of the LDAP representation allows the sharing of LDAP trees or subtrees among users. The LDAP trees and subtrees can be remotely located and distributed among different LDAP servers. Another preferred embodiment of the invention provides a graphical user interface for creating a Workflow process definition which is comprised of process elements: activities; actions; and entry/exit points. The user constructs a Workflow process using the process elements, logically interrelating each activity. Once the Workflow process is defined it is converted into an LDAP directory representation and stored in a Directory Server database or filesystem.

The flexible inner member is located within the outer member and the expandable member or members are located between the inner member and the outer support structure. The expandable members are expanded and contracted, or inflated and deflated to provide a pumping action that pumps the material through the organ. The prosthesis may also include valves or sphincters at the entrance and/or exit points of the organ where material moves into and out of the prosthesis. An implantable pump unit may be included for inflating and deflating the expandable members according to a desired sequence.
