Pen needles are used in conjunction with injection pens to deliver injectable medications into the body. A pen needle consists of a hollow needle which is embedded in a plastic hub and attaches to injection pens. Pen needles come in a variety of needle lengths and diameters and are used by health professionals and patients for injection of a variety of medications. They are commonly used by people with diabetes who often require multiple daily insulin injections.

Injection device with secondary reservoir

A method and apparatus for injecting fluid into areas having high density tissue that creates a high backpressure resistance on the injection device is disclosed. Pen Needle Hub Having Increased Contact Area

A pen needle assembly having a hub with an increased surface area that contacts a patient's skin is provided. The increased contact area of the hub with the patient's skin during injection of a cannula decreases the pressure exerted against the patient's skin, thereby increasing the comfort of the patient. A bonding adhesive is disposed on an outer surface of the hub, thereby decreasing the required curing time of the adhesive. Additionally, the increased contact area, between the cannula adhesive and hub increases the strength of the bond therebetween.

Safety pen needle with passive safety shield system

A pen needle shield system according to the invention comprises at least an injection end shield positioned on the injection side of the hub, shielding the injection end of the needle after an injection, or in the event of an accidental triggering. The injection end shield is compressed toward the hub against the pressure of a biasing spring. The injection end shield engages a sleeve, which is arranged coaxially on the hub such that after the injection is administered the biasing spring pushes the injection end shield to cover the injection end of the needle, carrying the sleeve with it. The sleeve engages the hub, locking out the injection end shield in a position in which the injection end of the needle is covered by the injection end shield. The system also may incorporate a non-injection end shield that engages with the hub when the pen injector is unscrewed from the hub to lock out the non-injection end shield in the position protecting the non-injection end of the needle.

Needle with an antiseptic swab

A disposable pen needle assembly for affixing to a pen injector for injecting a medicament, such as insulin, into a user. The pen needle assembly includes a needle that is sealed within a hub such that a proximal end of the needle is retained within the hub and enclosed by a peel-off hub inner seal. The opposite end of the needle extends outwardly for injecting the medicament. There is a sealed chamber external of the peel-off hub inner seal that contains a swab soaked with an antiseptic material. An outer removable seal, that also can be a peel-off seal, covers the sealed chamber containing the swab so that the user can simply remove the outer seal to gain access to the swab for cleansing the potential injection site. After swabbing the injection site, the hub seal is then also peeled off to access the needle for use in conventional manner.

Safety pen needle assembly

In one aspect, a safety pen needle assembly is provided which includes a hub, a needle fixed to a transverse wall of the hub, and a shield formed to at least partially telescope over the hub. An outer ablumenal surface of the hub and an inner lumenal surface of the shield are formed with cooperating thread elements to permit relative rotation between the hub and the shield. In an initial state, the cooperating thread elements are in threaded engagement with the shield being positioned relative to the hub with a distal end of the shield sidewall being located distally of a distal end of the needle. Also, in the initial state, the shield and the hub are configured with a rotation-resistance arrangement which inhibits relative rotation between the hub and the shield. The rotation-resistance arrangement is surmountable to allow relative rotation between the hub and the shield with an at least threshold amount of torque being applied, the threshold amount of torque being greater than required to mount the pen needle assembly onto an injector body. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a safety pen needle assembly can be provided having a shield threaded onto a hub with the assembly being mountable with the needle being in a shielded state. This minimizes the possibility of needle stick during mounting of the safety pen needle assembly.
