Virtual heart valve

A computational technique to construct a 3-D valve leaflet geometry. The invention pertains to methodology to construct a 3-D heart valve leaflet geometry using finite element analysis (FEA) to simulate the manual assembly process or, in other words, provide a virtual assembly process as an input to a subsequent simulated valve testing step. The simulated valves may be subjected to simulated cyclic valve opening and closings and the stress levels induced therein monitored. Simulated valve designs with lower principal stresses can then be selected for prototyping. Component Adaptive Life Management

A framework for adaptively managing the life of components. A sensor provides non-destructive test data obtained from inspecting a component. The inspection data may be filtered using reference signatures and by subtracting a baseline. The filtered inspection data and other inspection data for the component is analyzed to locate flaws and estimate the current condition of the component. The current condition may then be used to predict the component's condition at a future time or to predict a future time at which the component's condition will have deteriorated to a certain level. A current condition may be input to a precomputed database to look up the future condition or time. The future condition or time is described by a probability distribution which may be used to assess the risk of component failure. The assessed risk may be used to determine whether the part should continue in service, be replaced or repaired. A hyperlattice database is used with a rapid searching method to estimate at least one material condition and one usage parameter, such as stress level for the component. The hyperlattice is also used to rapidly predict future condition, associated uncertainty and risk of failure.

Methods of programming NEW data into unprogrammed bits of a group of memory cells is provided. The method applies an interactive programming algorithm that individually verifies and programs the NEW data, reference (REF) data, and existing or OLD data. OLD data is separately verified to a compensated program verify level from that of the NEW data to improve memory reliability and insure minimal uniform stress levels to the array. The improved programming algorithm prevents older data from being needlessly refreshed, thus mitigating stress to the cells that eventually causes the data areas to decay at different rates and become prematurely unreliable.

Methods and apparatus for work management and routing

Methods and apparatus for service-level based and / or skills-based assignment of a work item to one (or more) of a plurality of resources based on fitness, for example, of skills required by the former to those provided by the latter. Assignment takes into account the level of stress on the work item and / or resources, such that the number of resources fit for assignment varies as the level of stress varies. Systems according to the invention can be used, by way of example, to route a call or other request made by a customer to a service center. The requirements for processing the call (determined, for example, by an incoming call operator) are matched against the skill sets of available customer service agents, taking call and / or resource stress levels into account. For example, some implementations may match an incoming call having a low stress factor (e.g., a newly received call from a standard customer) to a smaller pool of agents with both required and desired skills, while assigning a call with a higher stress factor to a larger pool of agents with at least required skills. Other embodiments may match an incoming call having a low stress factor to the larger pool of agents having at least the required skills, while assigning a call with a higher stress factor (e.g., a call from a priority customer) to an agent from the smaller pool of agents who have both required and desired skills.

Dielectric deposition and etch back processes for bottom up gapfill

Methods to reduce film cracking in a dielectric layer are described. The methods may include the steps of depositing a first dielectric film on a substrate and removing a top portion of the first dielectric film by performing an etch on the film. Methods and apparatus for controlling a user interface based on the emotional state of a user

Methods and apparatus for modifying a user interface as a function of the detected emotional state of a system user are described. In one embodiment, stress analysis is performed on received speech to generate an emotional state indicator value, e.g., a stress level indicator value. The stress level indicator value is compared to one or more thresholds. If a first threshold is exceeded the user interface is modified, e.g., the presentation rate of speech is slowed. If a second threshold is not exceeded, another modification to the user interface is made, e.g., the speech presentation rate is accelerated. If the stress level indicator value is between first and second thresholds, user interface operation continues unchanged. The user interface modification techniques of the present invention may be used in combination with known knowledge or expertise based user interface adaptation features.

Disclosed herein are methods, systems, and apparatus for treating a chronic medical condition in a patient. A time of beat sequence of the patient's heart is determined. A regulatory system parameter is determined based on the time of beat sequence. The parameter is indicative of a stress level of the patient's regulatory adaptation systems. The determined regulatory system parameter is compared with a threshold regulatory system parameter value. An electrical signal is applied to a neural structure of the patient to treat the chronic medical condition if the determined regulatory system parameter exceeds the threshold regulatory system parameter value.
