311 results about "Indicator value" patented technology

Indicator value is a term that has been used in ecology for two different indices. The older usage of the term refers to Ellenberg's indicator values, which are based on a simple ordinal classification of plants according to the position of their realized ecological niche along an environmental gradient. More recently, the term has also been used to refer to Dufrêne & Legendre's indicator value, which is a quantitative index that measures the statistical alliance of a species to any one of the classes in a classification of sites.

Cache Configuration in a Database System

A computer-implemented method is disclosed. The method includes collecting cache-efficiency-indicator values of an at least one cache fragment during operation of a database system over a period of time. Providing approximation-function-parameter values for the collected, cache-efficiency-indicator values, an approximation function representing a relation between a cache-efficiency-indicator and the size of a respective cache fragment. The method continues by providing a set of workload windows based on the approximation-function-parameter values. Next, providing a workload-window information for the set of workload windows, the workload-window information including at least one approximation-function-parameter value representing each determined workload window. The method further includes storing the workload-window information for a comparison based on current, cache-efficiency-indicator values and the workload-window information.

Methods and apparatus for mobile station location estimation

Methods and apparatus for estimating mobile station location include receiving reported signal strengths or other attachment indicator values from a mobile station. The reported signal strengths are compared with characteristic received signal strength values in a coverage area of a mobile network. A mobile switching center determines if a location function is requested and initiates a location estimation process by a mobile location module (MLM). The MLM receives the reported signal strength contours associated with the attachment points. Based on a comparison of the reported attachment indicator values with characteristic values, the MLM provides a mobile location estimate.

Charge loss detection and prognostics for multi-modular split systems

A method for detecting and predicting refrigerant level includes the steps of determining an estimated value for a parameter indicative of refrigerant level and comparing that estimated value to an actual value. The difference between the actual and estimated value provides a refrigerant charge indicator value. The charge indicator value is indicative of the amount of refrigerant contained within the system. A change value is combined with the charge indicator value to provide a prediction for the future value of the charge indicator value. This future value is determined based on a rate of change and charge indicator value over a selected period of time.

Methods and apparatus for controlling a user interface based on the emotional state of a user

Methods and apparatus for modifying a user interface as a function of the detected emotional state of a system user are described. In one embodiment, stress analysis is performed on received speech to generate an emotional state indicator value, e.g., a stress level indicator value. The stress level indicator value is compared to one or more thresholds. If a first threshold is exceeded the user interface is modified, e.g., the presentation rate of speech is slowed. If a second threshold is not exceeded, another modification to the user interface is made, e.g., the speech presentation rate is accelerated. If the stress level indicator value is between first and second thresholds, user interface operation continues unchanged. The user interface modification techniques of the present invention may be used in combination with known knowledge or expertise based user interface adaptation features.

Face detection method, device and program

To detect faces contained in an image with changing position, inclination and orientation of a face to be detected, an indicator value for each position, inclination and orientation is calculated, which indicates probability of a partial image at the position being a face image having the inclination and the orientation. Then, the partial images having the indicator values not less than a first threshold are extracted as candidates. When a predetermined evaluation value indicating reliability of a certain candidate having a predetermined inclination and a first orientation is not less than a predetermined threshold value, another candidate having the predetermined inclination and a second orientation is discriminated as being a true face. When the candidates having the indicator values not less than a second threshold are discriminated as being true faces, the second threshold is lowered for another candidate having the predetermined inclination and a second orientation for discrimination.

Root Cause Analysis of Network Performance Based on Exculpation or Inculpation Sets

Performance problems or other conditions are analyzed in a system comprising a plurality of endpoint devices and an associated centralized or distributed controller. End-to-end measurements are obtained for respective paths through the network, for example, using communications between the endpoint devices. For a given end-to-end measurement obtained for a particular one of the paths, a value of a performance indicator for the path is determined and the performance indicator value is assigned to each of a plurality of links of the path. The determining and assigning operations are repeated for additional ones of the end-to-end measurements, the links are grouped into one or more exculpation or inculpation sets based on how many times a particular performance indicator value has been assigned to each of the links, and the one or more sets are utilized to determine, for example, the location of a performance problem in the network.
