Thickened fluids and thickened drinks are often used for people with dysphagia, a disorder of swallowing function. The thicker consistency makes it less likely that an individual will aspirate while they are drinking. Individuals with difficulty swallowing may find liquids cause coughing, spluttering or even aspiration and thickening drinks enables them to swallow safely. Patients may be advised to consume thickened liquids after being extubated. Liquid thickness may be measured by two methods, with a viscometer or by line spread test.

A method and system is provided which utilizes shear thickening fluids to enhance athletic performance. A shear thickening fluid composite is used on a golf club face to reduce the amount of side spin imparted onto a golf ball thus reducing the amount of slice or hook on the golf ball's flight path. Upon impact between the shear thickening fluid composite and the golf ball, the shear thickening fluid moves laterally away from the direction of the side spin imparted on the ball, thus reducing the amount of side spin imparted onto the golf ball. After this lateral motion, the shear thickening fluid hardens and transfers the remaining energy from the club face to the golf ball. A similar process occurs when the shear thickening fluid composite composes the outside of a golf ball. A shear thickening fluid composite is also used on an athletic shoe so as to transfer more force into a kicked ball thus having the ball travel at higher velocities. When the shoe strikes a ball, the shear thickening fluid within the shoe becomes rigid. This rigidness allows more energy to be transferred to the ball resulting in a ball traveling at a higher velocity. Additionally, a shear thickening fluid composite is incorporated into the sole of the athletic shoe to limit overpronation or underpronation during running. Also, a particulate-based shear thickening fluid incorporated into athletic shin guards improves protection and athletic performance by reducing weight and improving breathability.

Multiple dispersed phase flame retardant shear thickening fluid, its preparation method and application thereof

The invention relates to a multiple dispersed phase flame retardant shear thickening fluid, its preparation method and an application thereof, and belongs to the technical field of nano materials. The preparation method of the multiple dispersed phase flame retardant shear thickening fluid comprises the following steps of: firstly, respectively fusing 100 parts by weight of a disperse medium at the temperature of 30-60 DEG C, adding 40-70 parts by weight of hard spherical nanoparticles, dispersing at the temperature of 30-60 DEG C for 40-70 minutes, adding 1-10 parts by weight of a carbon material and simultaneously adding 10-20 parts by weight of a disperse medium, and continuously dispersing at normal pressure for 1-4 hours, so as to obtain a multiple dispersed phase fluid with a substantial shear thickening characteristic. The viscosity is 100-100000 Pa.S / 25 DEG C and the flame retardancy reaches UL-94V-0 level. By reasonable design and application of the nanometer effect of the hard spherical nanoparticles and characteristics of the carbon material, the multiple dispersed phase flame retardant fluid with the substantial shear thickening characteristic is prepared. Through an ultrasonic technology, a spraying technology, a sizing technology, loading and thermal sewing technologies, the multiple dispersed phase flame retardant shear thickening fluid can be used for impregnation composition, coating composition or embedding composition of fabrics, so as to prepare a light-duty flexible soft protection material with a flame retardant function.

Preparation method for high-toughness material of polypropylene/shear thickening fluid microcapsule

The invention relates to a preparation method for a high-toughness material of a polypropylene/shear thickening fluid microcapsule. The method comprises the following steps: firstly, dispersing nano silicon dioxide in polypropylene glycol under a high-speed mixing effect of a high-speed shearing and emulsifying machine to obtain a shear thickening fluid; secondly, uniformly mixing the prepared shear thickening fluid with water according to a certain ratio to obtain a uniform solution; thirdly, adding an emulsifier and an organic solvent into the uniform solution and mixing through a mixer to obtain a uniform water-in-oil emulsion; fourthly, transferring the water-in-oil emulsion into a three-mouth flask and adding isocyanate for reaction to obtain a shear thickening fluid microcapsule; fifthly, carrying out melt blending on polypropylene and the shear thickening fluid microcapsule in one or a combination of more of an open mixer, an internal mixer and an extruder to obtain the high-toughness material of the polypropylene/shear thickening fluid microcapsule. Compared with a general toughening polypropylene material, the rigidity of polypropylene cannot be reduced while the toughness of polypropylene is enhanced, the heat resistance and the processing flowability of polypropylene are improved, and the shear thickening fluid microcapsule is changed into solid powder which is more convenient to form in comparison with liquid.

The invention discloses a shear thickening fluid microcapsule, a reinforced high molecular material and a preparation method and an application of the shear thickening fluid microcapsule and the reinforced high molecular material. The preparation method of the shear thickening fluid microcapsule comprises the following steps: (1) mixing and stirring 20 parts of a shear thickening fluid, 75-79 parts of an organic solvent A and 1-5 parts of an emulsifier to obtain an emulsion, wherein the shear thickening fluid comprises a dispersion phase medium and dispersion phase particles in a weight ratio of (19 to1)-(4 to 1); and the emulsifier comprises Span 80 and Tween 80; and (2) mixing the emulsion with an organic solvent B containing isocyanate, wherein the weight ratio of the emulsion, isocyanate and the organic solvent B is (67-70) to (5-8) to 25; and reacting, filtering, washing and drying to obtain the shear thickening fluid microcapsule. The shear thickening fluid microcapsule can reinforce the high molecular material and improve the impact performance of the high molecular material, and meanwhile, the viscosity of the melt is not improved and the processing flowability of the high molecular weight can be improved.

The invention relates to a self-adaptive variable-damping shear thickening fluid vibration absorber.
