The second stage has two portions separated by the COGs such that CO2 and the formed carbon remain on an intake portion from the O2 rich atmosphere on the exhaust side, which is plumbed via a metering valve to introduce the O2 rich atmosphere to the inhalant side of the ventilation loop.

Method and device for magnetic space radiation shield providing isotropic protection

There is provided a radiation shield device for providing radiation protection to an area, such as a manned vehicle. The radiation shield device comprises a magnetic field generator, such as a solenoid, of superconductive material that provides a magnetic field around the area to shield the area from radiation. The magnetic field generator preferably comprises at least one trapezoidal portion to provide substantially isotropic protection to the area. A thermal control system, comprising a limited amount of coolant or a refrigeration cycle, is included to control a temperature of the superconductive material during operation of the magnetic field generator. A magnetic shield device may also be provided between the magnetic field generator and the area to be shielded from radiation to substantially shield the area from the magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generator.

Apparatus and method for putting on a protective suit

A protection suit, particularly a spacesuit, has an opening in a back portion of the spacesuit for entering and exiting the suit. The spacesuit is suspended on one side of a bulkhead (5') so that a hole in the bulkhead is aligned with the opening in the back portion of the suit. The opening is closeable by a backpack (3) which fits through the hole in the bulkhead into a decontamination chamber (7) on the opposite side of the bulkhead. Two sealing and interlocking systems are used. Each system has two subsystems to provide a total of four sealing and interlocking subsystems. A first subsystem (4) connects the spacesuit to the bulkhead that separates a living and working space from an airlock. A second subsystem (6) connects a backpack to the spacesuit (1). A third subsystem (9) connects the spacesuit, preferably through the backpack (3), to a decontamination chamber (7). A fourth subsystem (12) connects the decontamination chamber to the bulkhead (5'). Each subsystem (4, 6, 9, 12) is capable of hermetically sealing and interlocking the respective connection. The decontamination chamber is just large enough to accommodate the backpack.

The multi-layered self-healing materials, capable of repairing puncture damage of the various embodiments may be constructed by sandwiching a reactive (e.g., oxygen sensitive) liquid monomer formulation between two solid polymer panels, such as a polymer panel of Barex 210 IN (PBG) serving as the front layer panel and a polymer panel of Surlyn® 8940 serving as the back layer panel. The various embodiments may provide methods to produce multi-layered healing polymer systems. The various embodiments may provide a two-tier, self-healing material system that provides a non-intrusive capability to mitigate mid to high velocity impact damage in structures.

An enclosure providing a workspace for astronauts, deep-sea divers, etc. wearing pressurized suits includes a housing providing a substantially-closed chamber, a port providing access to the chamber, and a connector circumscribing the port. A pressure control system may be provided to pressurize and depressurize the chamber.
