Method for estimating respondent rank order of a set stimuli

A computer implemented method to estimate a respondent's or a set of respondents' rank order with respect to a number of attribute options (i.e. alternative prices, features, benefits, ways of expressing benefits, brand names, slogans, logos, graphic treatments such as package design elements and any other stimuli that the researcher believes may influence the individual's opinion such as a statement, graphic or brief audio). The method can be used when the number of stimuli to be presented exceeds the number that can be presented at one time to a respondent, most typically, exceeding the number that can be legibly displayed on one computer screen for rank ordering by a respondent. The estimated rank order is highly accurate, especially for the highest ranked stimuli, but requires only a small fraction of the respondent input that would be needed to capture a complete rank order from that respondent. This abstract is provided as an aid for finding relevant disclosures and not as a limitation on the scope of the claims.

Method and apparatus for measuring fiber orientation of a moving web

ActiveUS20060237156A1Substantial measureRobust estimate of the statistical distribution of fibersImage enhancementImage analysisGradient operatorsEngineering
An image-based measurement technique that directly measures the orientation of fibers in a moving web that comprises nonwoven material measures the orientation angles of the individual fibers so that a more robust estimate of the statistical distribution of fibers is obtained. The technique includes the steps of: (a) illuminating an area on at least one side of the web with radiation; (b) obtaining at least one digital image of the illuminated area; and (c) calculating the fiber orientation of the web by processing the at least one digital image with a gradient operator thereby analyzing the distribution of observed fiber orientation angles within the image. The gradient operator is preferably of a non-integer order between ⅓ and ⅔ and particularly between ¼ and ¾. The use of fractional-gradient operators yields more reliable results than when integer order gradients are employed.

High-pass two-dimensional ladder network resonator

A high-pass two-dimensional ladder network has been described for high-field MRI and credential applications. The next-to-highest eigenvalue of the network corresponds to a normal mode giving rise to B1 fields with good spatial homogeneity above the resonator plane. Other eigenvalues may also be used for specific imaging applications. In its most basic form, the ladder network is a collection of inductively coupled resonators where each element of the array is represented by at least one conducting strip having a self-inductance L, joined by a capacitor C at one or more points along each resonator. In the strong coupling limit of the inductively coupled high-pass two-dimensional ladder network resonator array, the array produces a high-frequency resonant mode that can be used to generate the traditional quadrature B1 field used in magnetic resonance imaging, and in the limit of weak or zero coupling reduces to a phased array suitable for parallel imaging applications.

Method and apparatus for measuring the crepe of a moving sheet

An image-based measurement technique that directly measures the crepe pattern on a moving sheet employs a suitable arrangement of illumination, optical elements, and an imaging device to obtain digital images of the sheet surface. The image resolution is sufficient to represent tissue crepe folds at the scale of the crepe. A spectral analysis of some or of all the images reveals the crepe folding pitch. Further analysis of the image optionally reveals other crepe structural parameters, such as the distribution of crepe fold orientation angles and distribution of linear fold lengths. Corrective actions can be implemented in response to changes in the crepe structure. The pitch of creping is the primary parameter for describing the crepe pattern; in addition, analyzing the images with a gradient operator can yield information regarding the orientation of the crepe folds and distribution of angles of the crepe furrows on the hood side or equivalently of the crepe seams on the cylinder side.

Regulated supply phase locked loop

InactiveUS20080111646A1Reduce noiseMinimizes PLL jitterPulse automatic controlLow noiseCapacitance
A noise-minimizing supply regulation architecture enabling high-performance integrated mixed-signal circuit systems is disclosed. The architecture identifies noise-generating and noise-sensitive sub-components of a PLL or other complex mixed-signal circuit and isolates the noise-sensitive sub-components from the noise-generating sub-components through the use of separate, wideband, high-PSRR voltage regulators for the two isolated supply domains. This isolation is further enhanced through techniques that separate or isolate the substrate regions occupied by the two types of sub-components. Further, internally generated noise is minimized by the allocation of available decoupling capacitance area in proportion to the noise generated within the domains. This supply isolation architecture achieves very low noise operation of the critical components of the mixed-signal integrated circuit system, thereby improving output quality.

State inference in a heterogeneous system

The invention relates to inferring the state of a system of interest having a plurality of indicator values and possibly being heterogeneous in nature. A number of indicator values from a control state and from a comparison state are gathered. From these indicator values, classification power between the control and comparison states (measure of goodness) is computed. Difference values are computed for the indicator values from the system of interest based on the difference to the indicator values from control and comparison states. From a number of these indicators, composite indicators are formed, and composite measures of goodness and composite difference values are computed. A plurality of composite indicators may be formed at different levels. These indicators may be represented as a tree and grouped according to content, and at the same time they may be arranged according to the measure of goodness or some other value. The indicators, measures of goodness, and difference values may be visualized and shown to a user, who may use such a representation for inferring the state of the system.
