Secure network access devices with data encryption

Secure point to point network communications. Secure point to point network communications are accomplished by sending data across a secure link. Trusted partners at the link are matched to each other. To ensure that no un-trusted partners are on the link, authentication is performed. One of the points may be a secure tap. The secure tap authenticates a trusted partner by receiving a hardware embedded encryption key or value derived from the hardware embedded encryption key from the trusted partner. Data sent on the trusted link is encrypted to prevent interception of the data. The secure tap polices the link to ensure that no un-trusted partners are attached to the link and that the trusted partner is not removed from the link. If un-trusted partners are added to the link or trusted partners removed from the link, the secure tap ceases sending data.

Scaling and extending UPnP v1.0 device discovery using peer groups

Disclosed is a method for scaling and extending the reach of UPnP device discovery and eventing by leveraging the use of a peer-to-peer network infrastructure. Peer-to-peer networking allows for the organization of a set of nodes into a group for efficient exchange of information and the group has an efficient and scalable mechanism for flooding data to all members in it. In one embodiment one PC in a peer group can receive device discovery announcements and subscribe for device event notifications. A discovery proxy and an eventing proxy running on the PC package the announcement and / or notification in a record and proceed to flood it to the group. The group flooding semantics route the notification to the subscribed controllers, which can subsequently take suitable action. Ultimately, this method produces a result whereby device discovery and eventing tasks can be fulfilled by locating the closest peer and obtaining the device announcements and notifications from that peer.

Content distribution using CD/DVD burners, high speed interconnects, and a burn and return policy

Embodiments of the present invention provide services that enable individuals to rent and / or purchase content over the Internet and to receive it electronically, referred to below as “EZTakes.” This content may include movies, TV shows, music, games and other information typically distributed on CD / DVD. EZTakes leverages high-speed broadband Internet connections, peer-to-peer networking, digital rights management (DRM) and the growing prevalence of home computers that now typically feature large hard drives (e.g. 180+gigabytes) and have the capability to “burn” (i.e. create) DVDs and / or CDs. EZTakes bridges the gap between the home computer and the living room by using standard technologies that consumers already own and are already familiar with: home computers, DVD media, DVD players and the Internet. EZTakes also promotes the interests of content owners (e.g. movie production companies) by expanding their revenue opportunities through enabling them to distribute their content assets over the Internet. EZTakes also includes technical control mechanisms, such as digital watermarking, that could not easily be exploited when using physical DVD / CD distribution channels.

Bridging between a Bluetooth scatternet and an Ethernet LAN

System and method are disclosed for bridging a point-to-point network such as a Bluetooth scatternet with a shared medium network such as an Ethernet LAN. The scatternet is connected to the LAN via a network access point (NAP). Data packets sent from the LAN to the scatternet are filtered at the NAP to eliminate unnecessary data packets from being sent to the scatternet. Only certain ones of the data packets are forwarded between the LAN and the scatternet. An inter-NAP protocol is used to exchange messages where two or more NAPs are connected to the LAN. Broadcast loops are prevented from occurring in the scatternet and the LAN by defining Administrative domains and NAP service areas (NAPSAs), and controlling the borders thereof according to a broadcast type of the data packets.

Selecting a network for routing real-time audio

A system, method, and apparatus are directed towards managing a Voice over IP (VOIP) message over a network. A computing device may be configured to select a network connection for which to send the message to a destination based on a variety of factors. Duplicate message packets may be communicated to the destination device through multiple network connections. The multiple network connections may include a peer-to-peer network connection, a peer network connection, an ad-hoc network connection, or the like. Metrics may be collected about the multiple network connections. A determination may be made based, in part, on the metrics whether one network connection is optimal over another network connection. If so, that network connection may be selected to continue to provide the message packets, and the communication of the duplicate packets is ceased.

Peer-to-peer network method and system for shipment delivery transactions

InactiveUS20070192111A1Facilitates cost-effectiveFacilitates convenientLogisticsCommerceData setOptimal matching
A method and system facilitate peer-to-peer delivery of shipments external of traditional shipping industry channels by listing at least one non-commercial shipment in a non-commercial shipment data set using a shipment listing template. The shipment listing template permits direct listing of the non-commercial shipment by an individual user for delivering the non-commercial shipment to a predetermined destination. Listing at least one non-commercial trip in a non-commercial trip data set through a trip listing template according to a predetermined set of parameters permits direct listing of the non-commercial trip by a non-commercial traveler. Determining a necessary route deviation from the non-commercial trip for delivering the non-commercial shipment to the predetermined destination uses a set of route deviation instructions. Associating the non-commercial shipment data set with the non-commercial trip data set uses a set of matching instructions. The matching instructions facilitate an optimal matching of the non-commercial shipments to one of the non-commercial trips. The matching instructions associate further with the route deviation instructions. The method and system further facilitate a transaction between the individual user and the non-commercial traveler using a set transaction instructions.

The invention relates to a method, network node, router, serving node and system for performing multicast in a point to point oriented telecommunication network. The basic idea is to introduce multicast transmission for parts of a network that is basically point-to-point oriented. This is done by creating transport multicast group tunnels between a router and a serving node in order to transport the multicast data. This invention describes the application of multicasting in point to point networks, such as UMTS with a scarce number of resources. In a mobile environment like in UMTS the idea could be implemented by using IP multicast for efficient transmission in the IP network between the SEGSN and GGSN for example on the Gn interface.
