In one embodiment, the telecommunication network includes: a caller device originating a 911 emergency call having a voice portion, and a data portion, a local service interface, a public voice network, a public data network, and an ESN, wherein the ESN determines the appropriate emergency service organization to receive the 911 emergency call and dispatches the voice portion and data portion thereto. In another embodiment, the telecommunication network includes: a BS, MSC, MPC, and PDE. In another embodiment, the 911 emergency call includes a 911 origination service option. In another aspect of the invention, a method for communicating a mobile-originated 911 emergency call to an appropriate PSAP is provided. In still another aspect of the invention, a caller device for originating the 911 emergency call is provided. The caller device includes: a microphone, a camera, and a 911 button.

A message is sent from a mobile unit device over a wireless communication network. The message includes a destination address, information associated with the mobile unit device's user, message content and message address. If, according to information previously stored for the mobile unit device's user at the instant message system, the destination address is associated with an instant message function, the associated instant message function is executed at the instant message system using the information contained in the message content, if required as determined by the associated instant message function. If, according to information previously stored for the mobile unit device's user at the instant message system, the destination address is associated with an instant message name, an instant message is created according to the message content and is sent to the user with the associated instant message name. For instant messages sent or received by a mobile unit device with known buddies, the instant message is optimized by tagging the instant message with a routing phone number that is unique to the mobile unit device and buddy combination, whose identity is stored both in the mobile unit device address book and in the instant message routing server.

By the method, a complete non-audio communication protocol is provided, the separate transmission of audios and videos is realized by a PSTN circuit switching network and the IP network, and the short delay of audio communication and the high quality of video communication are ensured at the same time.

A system and a method are disclosed for providing telephone number sharing services to subscribers over public switched telephone network or data network. The disclosed system maintains a bank of reusable caller identifiers (IDs). The system receives call details of a call from a subscriber of the system. The call details include a caller identifier (ID) preference of the subscriber and a called number corresponding to the called party. The system stores the call details in a database. The system determines whether the call from the subscriber is a first call to the called number. In response to the call being the first call to the called number, the system assigns a call ID from the bank of reusable caller IDs that satisfies the reusable caller ID preference of the subscriber, and connects the call to the called number along with the caller ID.
