Pleated stent assembly

The present invention is directed to a pleated medical device assembly, preferably a pleated stent assembly, comprising a tube co-pleated with a balloon to a delivery width suitable for intraluminal delivery. Because the tube of the present invention transitions between its original diameter and its delivery diameter by folding and unfolding, rather than by radial contraction and expansion, the wall of the tube of the present invention may be substantially non-expandable, and thus may be substantially solid. The pleated stent assembly of the present invention is particularly suited for the treatment of neurovascular aneurysms.

Medical device for intraluminal endovascular stenting

A medical device includes a catheter and a stent mounted on the catheter, the stent having a hollow, cylindrical body made with a plurality of rings. The rings each extend circumferentially around the cylindrical body and include an undulating series of peaks and valleys. The rings are joined together by a series of links which are shaped and arranged to promote longitudinal flexibility as the stent is delivered on the catheter and effective scaffolding after deployment. In one aspect of the invention, the rings are provided with inflection points on some portions of the rings which extend in a generally circumferential direction for a short distance. A link is joined at one end at the inflection point on one ring and also joined at a second end at a second inflection point on an adjacent ring. This construction allows the crimped stent to flex longitudinally when it is subjected to bending forces such as those encountered during delivery of the stent and catheter through a tortuous coronary artery.

Variable strength stent

An expandable stent for implantation in a body lumen, such as an artery, is disclosed. The stent consists of a plurality of radially expandable cylindrical elements generally aligned on a common longitudinal stent axis and interconnected by one or more interconnecting members placed so that the stent is flexible in the longitudinal direction. The strength of the stent at a center section or at either end can be varied by increasing the mass of the struts forming each cylindrical element in that center section or end section relative to the lower mass struts in the remaining sections of the stent. Increasing the mass of the struts can be accomplished by, for a given strut thickness, increasing the width of the strut, or increasing the length of a cylindrical element.

A composite stent-graft tubular prosthesis includes an inner PTFE tubular structure, an outer PTFE tubular structure positioned about the inner PTFE tubular structure and a diametrically deformable stent interposed between the inner and outer PTFE tubular structures. The interposed stent is formed from an elongate wire helically wound with a plurality of longitudinally spaced turns into an open configuration. Each of the turns includes successive aligned upper and lower wave-like peaks. Selective ones of said upper and lower peaks are exposed exteriorly of the outer PTFE structure to render the composite prosthesis longitudinally flexible.

Stent pattern for high stent retention

InactiveUS20070191926A1High stent retentionEnhance stent retentionStentsBlood vesselsMedicineLarge cell
An expandable stent has larger cells located at the distal end of the stent than in the body portion so that a catheter balloon can more easily protrude into the cells to increase stent retention relative to the balloon. The intravascular stent has a plurality of cylindrical rings connected by links, the spacing of which is a factor in defining the cell size. The stent can be compressed or crimped onto a balloon catheter to a very low profile and maintain a high degree of stent retention due to increased spacing between rings in the region of the distal end ring.

Wire guide with cannula

The present invention generally relates to a medical surgical device and specifically a wire guide for percutaneous placement within a body lumen. The wire guide includes an elongated mandrel having sufficient flexibility and kink resistance and a cannula having a stiffness greater than the mandrel stiffness for sufficient pushability. The mandrel extends through the cannula and has a portion extending distal thereto to form a distal tip of the wire guide. The wire guide can further include a slotted cannula to improve the flexibility of the wire guide at the proximal portion of the wire guide. The slots can be arranged in various patterns for increased flexibility along the longitudinal length of the cannula, as well as increased circumferential flexibility along the wire guide. The mandrel may also have a proximally tapered portion to improve the flexibility of the wire guide at the proximal portion of the wire guide.

Longitudinally flexible stent

An intravascular stent especially suited for implanting in curved arterial portion. The stent retains longitudinal flexibility after expansion. The stent is formed of intertwined meander patterns forming triangular cells. The cells are adapted to provide radial support, and also provide longitudinal flexibility after expansion. The cells also provide increase coverage of a vessel wall. The stent has a reduced crimped profile due to the differing lengths of adjacent structural members within the cells, resulting in loops which are not aligned around the circumference of the stent. Also, this stent may contain a second type of square cells, which are adapted predominately to minimize flaring of the stent ends and to provide additional stiffness.

Longitudinally flexible stent

An intravascular stent especially suited for implanting in curved arterial portions. The stent retains longitudinal flexibility after expansion. The stent is formed of intertwined meander patterns forming triangular cells. The triangular cells are adapted to provide radial support, and also to provide longitudinal flexibility after expansion. The triangular cells provide increased coverage of a vessel wall. The stent can have different portions adapted to optimize radial support or to optimize longitudinal flexibility. Loops in the stent are disposed and adapted to cooperate so that after expansion of said stent within a curved lumen, the stent is curved and cells on the outside of the curve open in length, but narrow in width whereas cells on the inside of the curve shorten in length but thicken in width to maintain a density of stent element area which much more constant than otherwise between the inside and the outside of the curve. As a result, when the stent is coated with a medicine the more constant density of stent elements results in an even dose being applied to the inside wall of the lumen, avoiding the possibility that a toxic dose be supplied at one area while a less than effective dose is applied to another area.

A non-compliant high strength balloon (10) includes a reinforcement member (30) formed of a sleeve of woven or braided strengthening elements (32, 34). There are provided circumferential strengthening elements (32) which are pre-tensed in order to remove any undulations within the strengthening elements (32) and to ensure that these have a precise annular size. On the other hand, the longitudinal strengthening elements (34) have undulations therein. The pre-tensing of the strengthening elements (32) ensures that the balloon will not stretch during pressurization thereof, which can occur when the circumferential strengthening elements have undulations therein, which will be natural artefacts of a weaving or braiding process. The undulations in the longitudinal strengthening elements (34) provides the balloon with increased longitudinal flexibility.
