Method of and system for finding and serving consumer product related information over the internet using manufacturer identification numbers

A method of and system for finding and serving consumer product-related information on the Internet comprising a database serving subsystem which stores: a plurality of manufacturer identification numbers (MINs) assigned to a plurality of manufacturers of consumer products; a plurality of home-page specifying URLs symbolically linked to the plurality of MINs; a plurality of universal product numbers (UPN) assigned to a plurality of consumer products made by the plurality of manufacturers; and a plurality of product-information specifying URLs symbolically linked to the plurality of UPNs. During operation, a client subsystem transmits to the database serving subsystem, a request for information which includes the UPN assigned to the consumer product on which product-related information is being sought. The database serving subsystem automatically compares the UPN against the stored plurality of MINs, and automatically returns to the client subsystem, one or more of URLs symbolically linked to the UPN, if URLs have been symbolically linked to the UPN within the database serving subsystem. However, if no URLs have been symbolically linked to the UPN, then the database serving subsystem automatically returns the home-page specifying URL symbolically linked to the MIN contained within the UPN in the request. By virtue of this novel MIN-based search mechanism embodied within the database serving subsystem, client subsystems are automatically provided with the home-page of the manufacturer's World Wide Web (WWW) site in situations where product-information specifying URLs have not yet been symbolically linked with the UPN on any one of the manufacturer's products.

Internet-based consumer product brand marketing communication system which enables manufacturers, retailers and their respective agents, and consumers to carryout product-related functions along the demand side of the retail chain in an integrated manner

An Internet-based consumer product brand marketing communication system which enables manufacturers, retailers and their respective agents, and consumers to carryout product-related functions along the demand side of the retail chain. A central RDBMS (i.e. data warehouse) stores a central database of consumer product related information resource files (IRFs) each IRF being indexed with a Universal Product Number (UPN) assigned thereto by the manufacturer of the consumer product, or its designated agent, which relates to the consumer product. A first subsystem enables a manufacturer's marketing, brand and / or product managers to create and manage a local RDBMS containing UPN-indexed IRFs related to the consumer products of the manufacturer being offered for sale in both physical and / or electronic marketplaces, and periodically transport the local RDBMS of UPN-indexed IRFs to the central RDBMS by electronic data transport techniques. The local RDBMS of UPN-indexed IRFs is selected by the manufacturer's marketing, brand and / or product managers so as to create a desired brand image for each the consumer product of the manufacturer. A second subsystem enables consumers to access one or more UPN-indexed IRFs in the central RDBMS, to request and obtain information about a manufacturer's consumer product so as to make informed / educated purchases along the demand side of the retail chain. A third subsystem enables manufacturers and their advertising and marketing agents to access one or more UPN-indexed IRFs in the central RDBMS to display consumer product advertisements to consumers, at or near the point of purchase or sale within both physical and / or electronic retail shopping environments so as to project the desired brand image to consumers. A fourth subsystem enables retailers and their marketing and promotional agents to access one or more UPN-indexed IRFs in the central RDBMS, to promote consumer products to consumers, at or near the point of purchase or sale within both physical and / or electronic retail shopping environments so as to promote the sale of such products in inventory.

Knowledge gathering methods and systems for transforming product descriptions into process networks

Methods and systems for automated, local product classification through knowledge engineering aided by visual representation of the product may be combined with some targeted queries. A library of product descriptions, particularly, print product descriptions, are visualized and custom document visualizations can be created and added. Products in the library can be searched and managed via a query mechanism that filters on values of the product characteristics. Knowledge encoded in the visual representation is automatically mapped into the classification system's internal representation of the print products which is thus made common throughout the shop and may be made common across shops. The characteristics as described by the product visualization, in combination with ranges and other parameter constraints, can be subsequently mapped into the internal abstraction of product type representation of a conversation system for transforming product descriptions into process networks.
