Expandable absorbable implants for breast reconstruction and augmentation

Expandable absorbable implants have been developed that are suitable for breast reconstruction following mastectomy. The implants can be implanted in the vicinity of a tissue expander, for example, by suturing to the detached edge of the pectoralis major muscle to function as a pectoralis extender, and used to form a sling for a tissue expander. The implants, which permit tissue-ingrowth and slowly degrade, can be expanded in the breast using a tissue expander in order to form a pocket for a permanent breast implant. After expansion, the tissue expander can be removed and replaced with a permanent breast implant. The expandable implants help reduce patient discomfort resulting from tissue expansion, and avoid the need to use allografts or xenografts to create the pocket for the tissue expander. The expandable absorbable implant preferably comprises poly-4-hydroxybutyrate or copolymer thereof.

Method and Apparatus for Tissue Expansion

Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure provide method and apparatus for facilitating stretching of a biological tissue by forming a plurality of micro-slits in the tissue. Each micro-slit can be less than about 2 mm or less than about 1.5 mm long, or even less than about 1 mm, such that small gaps that can heal quickly can be formed when the tissue is stretched. The micro-slits can be formed using a plurality of cutting arrangements or an ablative laser. The micro-slits can be formed in various patterns, including staggered rows, circular or spiral patterns, or random patterns.

Tissue spreading vascular clips with locking mechanism and non-slip clamping surfaces

A surgical clip includes a pair of opposed arms joined at one end by an integrally formed flexible hinge. A male head element near the free end of one arm is configured to spread tissue when the male head element is urged towards a head mating element near the end of the opposite arm. The clamping side of an arm may include a protruding feature, such as a wedge shape elongated ridge, while the clamping side of the opposite arm includes a corresponding trough or aperture that receives the protruding feature. Clamping surfaces may include non-slip protrusions, such as ribs, ridges, cones or pins. An applicator holding feature, such as a boss, near the hinge prevents the clip from yawing and becoming askew during application. Rectangular alignment features are provided on the distal ends of the arms to maintain clip alignment during application.

Implantable prostheses for tissue expansion

ActiveUS20180280131A1Slow and continuous expansionFix security issuesMammary implantsDiagnosticsElastomerTissue expansion
A device can be used for both tissue expansion within a body of a patient as well as a permanently implanted prosthesis. Such a device can include an expandable elastomeric matrix and granules of a solute embedded within the matrix. The matrix can define boundaries of a plurality of chambers within the matrix. The device, when implanted within the body of the patient, can be exposed to fluid within the patient to create an osmotic gradient across a boundary of the device. Based on the gradient, fluid permeates the elastomer and gradually expands the chambers. The rate of expansion can be programmed to allow the body to naturally adapt to the volume, which increases until achieving a target volume in an expanded state.

Transparentizing reagent and application thereof in biological tissue material optical imaging as well as living body skin tissue transparentizing imaging method

The invention discloses a transparentizing reagent and application thereof in biological tissue material optical imaging as well as a living body skin tissue transparentizing imaging method. The transparentizing reagent is mannose or a mixture formed by dissoving mannose and 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolinone in a solvent. The transparentizing reagent can be applied to the biological tissue material optical imaging. The living body skin tissue transparentizing imaging method comprises the following steps: removing hairs on the surface, cleaning and drying; fixing and placing a skin tissue on a focalplane of an optical imaging system; dropwise adding the transparentizing reagent to the skin tissue at an imaging position, and standing for 5-30 minutes; imaging; and after the imaging is finished, wiping the transparentizing reagent, and repeatedly scrubbing and cleaning the surface of the skin tissue with normal saline or phosphate buffer solution, so that the skin tissue restores the originalstate. The reagent disclosed by the invention can not produce obvious tissue expansion or tissue shrinkage when in use, a detailed structure of a biological material can be completely stored, transparentizing time is short, transparentizing capability is high, and the reagent can be applied to the biological tissue material optical imaging.

Rapid tissue transparent processing method based on water-soluble reagent and application thereof

The invention provides a rapid tissue transparent processing method based on water-soluble reagent and an application thereof. The processing method comprises the following steps: placing a tissue fixed through paraformaldehyde into a tissue expansion treating agent, sufficiently soaking to loosen and expand the tissue, and removing lipid; placing the tissue sufficiently soaked by the tissue expansion treating agent into a tissue contraction agent so that the tissue can be contracted to an original state from the expansion state, and acquiring an initial transparent effect; placing the tissuesufficiently treated in the tissue contraction agent into a refractive index matching reagent to soak, and finally obtaining the highly transparent tissue with relatively uniform refractive index. Thetissue treated through the method disclosed by the invention is highly transparent, and can be used for tissue entire three-dimensional fluorescence imaging, thereby realizing three-dimensional high-resolution imagining on the whole brain neural network and an organ vascular network structure.

Genitalia external prothesis for treatment of male external genitalia hypoplasia

The present invention relates to a device for treating male genital hypoplasia, growing its tissue and correcting existing curvature. The device of the present invention is unique in that it employs an external genital fixation system (1; 13) to which a diameter device (5) and a gland protection system (15) are connected. The external genital fixation system (1) and the upper element (13) create a traction force on the male external genitalia. The diameter device (5) creates a tissue expansion on the male genitalia. The gland protection system (15) avoids possible wounds, which makes it possible to use it for a long time without discomfort. Users of the device can wear it for months, several hours a day. Thus, for the treatment of male genital hypoplasia, timely tissue expansion and the opportunity to prolong the expansion are fundamental.
