A spinal stabilization system for installation to the posterior of the spinal column that includes a pair of anchoring members affixed to adjacent vertebrae and which may have screw threads to carry out that affixation. The anchoring members each have external head ends for the attachment of a flexible shaft that thus spans between the vertebrae and allows motion between those adjacent vertebrae. The flexible shaft is made of a monolithic body having no moving components that could generate debris and fail mechanically. Exemplary flexible shafts suitable for use in this system includes one having at least one slot that may be a spiral slot, a shaft having pairs of oppositely disposed slots formed in the body with adjacent pairs angularly displaced apart or a flexible shaft having a serpentine slot formed therein. The flexible shaft is controlled to have a desired flexibility.

The support member can also be hollow so that it can receive a mandrel whose stiffness is greater than that of the support member.

The inner elastomeric member has a first elasticity to provide the flexible member with a desired flexibility. In another embodiment, the flexible member includes an outer covering that defines an outer elastomeric member. The outer elastomeric member may be situated securely around the outer fabric layer with the inner elastomeric member, the outer fabric layer, and the outer elastomeric member having the common lengthwise axis and defining the body including the opposing first and second ends. The outer elastomeric member may have a second elasticity that is less than the first elasticity.

A self-expanding basket for use in conjunction with an embolic filtering device has a proximal set of struts which are connected to a distal set of struts by a bending region which provides enhanced bending characteristics to the basket. The bending region can be formed by intermediate links which are extremely flexible and bendable to allow the basket to be delivered through tortuous anatomy. The intermediate links are extremely flexible and create a mechanical hinge-like connection between the proximal and distal strut assemblies. The basket thus is capable of substantial bending when being delivered through the patient's vasculature and will bend and conform to the patient's anatomy once positioned for filtering purposes. The intermediate links can also lengthen, when needed, when positioned in a curved vessel in the patient's vasculature, when needed. As a result, the basket will easily conform to a curved body vessel to maintain proper wall apposition of the filtering element with the wall of the body vessel.

To improve impact strength of coatings and films provided thereby, the compositions comprise curing agent adducts of one or more polyepoxy compound chosen from triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC) and triglycidyl trimellitate with a carboxyl functional polyester having a carboxyl equivalent weight of 602 or more. In addition, to further improve the impact strength of coatings and films provided thereby, the compositions may comprise one or more adjunct curing agent, such as glycoluril, an aminoplast resin or a blocked isocyanate.
