Wildlife-sensing digital camera with instant-on capability and picture management software

An outdoor, battery powered digital camera includes a passive infrared motion detector that allows the camera to be left unattended, as the detector automatically triggers the camera to take a picture upon sensing the presence of a moving animal. To prolong the life of the battery, the camera goes into a power-saving sleep mode between pictures. To enable the camera to instantly take a picture upon suddenly being awakened by the motion detector, the exposure setting of the camera is periodically checked, adjusted and stored so that the camera can use that fairly recent exposure setting, or one near it, to take an instant picture rather than wasting excessive time adjusting the exposure when the animal first appears. In some cases, the camera is used in conjunction with picture management software.

An inline skateboard capable of being propelled by leg motion of a rider and which includes a platform supporting the rider along with a front wheel truck and a rear wheel truck. Each of these wheel trucks carry a single wheel. Moreover, the wheels are capable of slight turning movement transversely with respect to the platform and provide a high degree of maneuverability and turning capability. The wheels on each of the trucks are offset with respect to a pivot axis for each of the trucks. In addition, the axis of rotation of the front wheel is displaced rearwardly of the front pivot axis and the axis of rotation of the rear wheel is displaced forwardly of the rear pivot axis. Further, the angle of displacement of these pivot axes with respect to the axis of rotation is the same. Each of the wheels have relatively flat riding surfaces and relatively flat side walls with arcuate connecting sections extending between the flat side walls and the relatively flat riding surfaces, such that only the outer edges of the wheels are arcuate in shape. This construction provides for highly effective maneuverability and steering capability.

Transonic compressor rotors with non-monotonic meanline angle distributions

Airfoils are provided having non-monotonic meanline angle distributions and local negative camber along a length of the meanline between a point on a leading edge of the airfoil and a point on the trailing edge of the airfoil. The improved airfoil shape decreases the peak of a Mach number of a shock wave that develops in a passage between adjacent airfoils and attenuates or eliminates the shock wave at the suction surface of the airfoil within the passage. A blade constructed by this type of airfoil provides improved fluid flow in the passages between the airfoils, increased efficiency and an improved stall margin, among other benefits.

Furnace Air Handler Blower Housing with an Enlarged Air Outlet Opening

ActiveUS20090114206A1Overcomes efficiency problemLess pressure dropPump componentsAir heatersAir handlerWaste management
An air distribution blower housing for an air handler such as a residential furnace is designed with an enlarged air outlet opening that slows down and spreads out the air flow from the blower housing over a greater area of the furnace heat exchanger. The blower housing thereby enables less air pressure drop through the heat exchanger, which increases the efficiency of the blower motor operation. The design of the blower housing also efficiently turns the velocity head of the air flow through the housing to usable static air pressure at the housing air outlet. The enlarged air outlet opening of the blower housing is achieved without increasing the exterior diameter dimensions of the blower housing whereby the blower housing is used in a compact enclosure for residential use. This is accomplished by utilizing a volute outer wall of the blower housing that has an exponentially increasing expansion angle in the direction of air flow through the blower housing.

Gateway-Based Anti-Theft Security System and Method

Improved systems and techniques are disclosed for controlling the security states of anti-theft security systems such as product display assemblies using security fobs. The tasks relating to fob authentication are offloaded to a computer system, and these authentications can be based on identifiers for the different security fobs. The interactions between security fobs and product display assemblies can be consistent regardless of the population of authorized security fobs by using a security code that is shared by the security fobs. When attempting to use a security fob to change a security status for a product display assembly, the provision of the code to the subject product display assembly can be predicated on authorization of the subject security fob by the computer system. The computer system can maintain a list of identifiers for authorized security fobs that is easily updated when new security fobs are added to or existing security fobs are de-authorized from the system.
