41 results about "Area of a disk" patented technology

In geometry, the area enclosed by a circle of radius r is π r². Here the Greek letter π represents a constant, approximately equal to 3.14159, which is equal to the ratio of the circumference of any circle to its diameter.

Calibrating a defect scan parameter for a disk drive

A method is disclosed for performing a defect scan for a disk drive. Data is recorded on a first data area of a disk substantially free from defects and on a second data area of the disk substantially affected by at least one defect. A defect scan parameter is initialized with an initial setting. The first data area is read to determine a first defect threshold, and the second data area is read to determine a second defect threshold. A margin is saved representing a difference between the first and second defect thresholds. The setting for the defect scan parameter is adjusted, and the elements of reading the first and second data areas and saving a corresponding margin are repeated at least once. A setting is then selected for the defect scan parameter in response to the saved margins.

Method of detecting a defect area of a disk

The present invention relates to a method of detecting a defect area without any mistake during data recording on a writable disk. This method detects a level of a servo error signal produced during a recording operation, checks whether the servo error signal is in an abnormal state based on the detected level, detects a periodic wobble signal or periodicity of the abnormal state occurrences of the servo error signal produced during the recording operation, and determines whether a recording area is in defect based on successful decoding of the detected periodic wobble signal or the periodicity of the abnormal state occurrences if the servo error signal is in an abnormal state. This method ensures exact detection of a defect area, whereby unnecessary speed reduction can be eliminated and successful data writing can be also guaranteed even in a defect area.

Data access method and apparatus

The present invention provides a data access method and apparatus, which belong to the technical field of databases. The method comprises: acquiring an access mode of data and a key; according to a hash value of the key, determining an access position of the data in a hash table of a memory or in a hash index area of a disk, wherein the hash index area is established according to a deformed B+ tree; and accessing the data at the access position of the data according to a storage mode. The hash value in the disk is stored in a manner of the deformed B+ tree, and storage of the hash value increases data searching efficiency; the manner of the deformed B+ tree enhances expansibility of data storage, and the storage mode can improve efficiency of data searching in the disk; and according to the data access method, during data access based on the storage mode, after determining the access position of the data in the memory or the disk according to the hash value, the data can be directly accessed from the access position, so that requirements for memory configuration are reduced and a step of reading the data back to the memory in the prior art is avoided.

Data protection in data storage system

For protecting data within a data storage system, such as a hard disk drive, security enable mode is entered. In that mode, initialization data is moved from a first area of a disk to a second area of the disk with a location of the second area being randomly generated. The initialization data is then erased from the first area. Also, a first cipher for firmware and a second cipher for a disk are both changed into a randomly generated value. Later, access to the initialization data from the second area is granted in the security enable mode if the first and second ciphers are the same.

Storage system

The invention provides a storage system. The temporary area capacity required to be secured with respect to the whole permanent area is calculated in accordance with the capacity and access frequency of a host computer data permanent area of a disk device contained in the storage system and a disk device of an external storage device that is managed by a storage virtualization function of this storage system. The nonvolatile memory of this capacity is defined as the temporary area and is used to temporarily store host computer data when a data I / O from the host computer is processed. In addition, the required capacity of the temporary area of the nonvolatile memory is re-calculated in accordance with an event such as a configuration change where the external storage system is increased or reduced or the nonvolatile memory is increased or reduced and, if necessary, control is exercised to increase or reduce the capacity of the temporary area of the nonvolatile memory.

Method of changing a recording mode between constant angular velocity and constant linear velocity

The present invention relates to a method of changing a recording mode from CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) to CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) mode in the middle of recording data to a disk recording medium. A method according to the present invention reads ATIP-framed data encoded in a wobble signal formed along a spiral physical track while recording input data to a recording medium, detects a sync signal contained in the read ATIP-framed data. Another method measures frequency of a low-frequency component of the wobble signal instead of reading ATIP-framed data. These two methods determines, in common, when to change the recording mode from CAV to CLV based on the period of the detected sync signal or the measured frequency. The present invention makes it possible to record input data to an entire area of a disk more rapidly without fatal errors such as imperfect writing. As a result, total recording time can be reduced with stable recording guaranteed.

Apparatus and method for controlling magnetic head loading in disk drive

A head IC amplifies an output of a read head including MR elements and an ADC converts the amplified output into a digital value. When a CPU performs a head load operation to load a composite head including the read head onto a data area of a disk medium from a ramp, the CPU receives the output of the read head amplified by the head IC as a detection result of an external magnetic field applied to an HDD. The CPU determines whether the head load operation is performed or inhibited based on the received, amplified output of the read head, that is, the detection result of the external magnetic field applied to the HDD.

Method for protecting data of hard disk

The invention provides a method used for protecting data in a hard disk and is applied to the hard disk; when a computer implements X-code of the hard disk, the hard disk can be read and the processing of activating an operating system can be finished if an identification code of the hard disk recorded by the hard disk is judged to be identical to an identification code designed by a computer; or the content in a splitting area of a disk in record of a master boot is cleaned up, therefore the hard disk can not be read and the processing of activating the operating system can not be finished. When the hard disk is stolen, another computer can not read the hard disk and finish the boot action, thus achieving the aim of protecting the data of the hard disk.

Data recording controller

The present invention provided a data recording controller. A modulation control section 12 receives a write start command WTST from an MPU 18 and starts a start trigger permission STEN to a trigger generation section 20. When a count CNT of a counter 17 is coincident with a value STPOS corresponding to a write start position for a period for outputting the start trigger permission STEN, the trigger generating section 20 starts a start trigger ST. A 8-16 modulation section 11 receiving it reads an initial value set to a parameter register 21, updates it as a parameter for data conversion and allows an output section 16 to output write data converted by using it as output data SIGOUT. The invention is capable of efficiently using a data recording area of a disk medium.
