Client-side multimedia content targeting system

A client-side multimedia content targeting system schedules the recording, storing, and deleting of multimedia content on a client system storage device. The invention accepts as input a prioritized list of program viewing preferences which is compared with a database of program guide objects that indicate when programs of interest are actually broadcast. The viewer may request that certain content be captured, which results in the highest possible priority for those content. The viewer may also explicitly express preferences using appurtenances provided through the viewer interface. Preferences may additionally be inferred from viewing patterns. The viewer's client system locally retains the viewer's preferences and other personal information that the viewer has entered and is sent targeting information relating to program guide objects by a server. Using the viewer's preferences and personal information, the client system creates a viewer profile, which is used with the targeting information by the client system to record content that is within the viewer profile. The invention's client-based form of targeting can be applied to almost any multimedia situation, including, but not limited to: TV shows, movies, advertisements, product and service offerings, music, radio, audio, etc.

Method and system for designing or deploying a communications network which considers frequency dependent effects

A computerized model provides a display of a physical environment in which a communications network is or will be installed. The communications network is comprised of several components, each of which are selected by the design engineer and which are represented in the display. Errors in the selection of certain selected components for the communications network are identified by their attributes or frequency characteristics as well as by their interconnection compatibility for a particular design. The effects of changes in frequency on component performance are modeled and the results are displayed to the design engineer. A bill of materials is automatically checked for faults and generated for the design system and provided to the design engineer. For ease of design, the design engineer can cluster several different preferred components into component kits, and then select these component kits for use in the design or deployment process.

Methods and apparatus for antenna control in a wireless terminal

Base stations transmit strip signals using strip signal segments and self supporting modulation scheme techniques facilitating rapid channel estimate. A strip segment occupies one OFDM symbol time interval and uses a set of downlink tones; some, e.g., half, of the tones are left unused facilitating SIR measurement. The strip segments are advantageously timed to correspond to uplink access intervals in which connected wireless terminals do not typically transmit uplink signals. Connected wireless terminals including: multiple antennas used in combination, an antenna duplex module, single RF receiver chain and single RF transmitter chain, switch antenna coefficient combinations based on strip signal segment timing. The wireless terminal determines an independent downlink channel quality measurement, e.g., SNR and / or SIR for each strip signal segment and for on-going non-strip signaling. The wireless terminal compares channel quality measurements and selects an antenna coefficient combination to be used during non-strip signaling intervals obtaining very good antenna gain.

Handoff procedure in a mobile communication system

The invention relates to an improved handover procedure for a mobile terminal. Under control of the target base station, the mobile terminal is to perform a handoff to a target base station, wherein it is to be configured for communication with the target base station via a target radio cell comprising a downlink carrier and an uplink carrier. The mobile terminal receives a handoff command message for the handoff to the target base station including a handoff execution condition as trigger for executing handoff to the target base station. Then, the mobile terminal determines, based on the received handoff execution condition, whether or not the mobile terminal is to trigger execution of the handoff to the target base station. In case the mobile terminal determines that it is to trigger execution of the handoff to the target base station, the mobile terminal executes the handoff to the target base station.

Semiconductor memory device having a delay circuit for generating a read timing

A delay circuit in a semiconductor memory device generates a sense amplifier enable signal having a delay time with respect to the timing of selection of one of memory cells. The delay time corresponds to the largest read time for the memory cell located at the most distant position and has an irregularity reflecting an irregularity in threshold voltage of nMOSFET transfer gates in each memory cell, which affects the read time. An optimum timing for the sense amplifier enable signal can be obtained by the delay circuit irrespective of the irregularity in the threshold voltage of the nMOSFET transfer gates.

Systems and methods for optimizing ventricular pacing based on left atrial electromechanical activation detected by an av groove electrode

Techniques are provided for use with an implantable cardiac stimulation device equipped with a multi-pole left ventricular (LV) lead having a proximal electrode implanted near an atrioventricular (AV) groove of the heart of the patient. A left atrial (LA) cardioelectrical event is sensed using the proximal electrode of the LV lead and a corresponding LA cardiomechanical event is also detected, either using an implantable sensor or an external detection system. The electromechanical activation delay between the LA cardioelectrical event and the corresponding LA cardiomechanical event is determined and then pacing delays are set based on the electromechanical activation delay for use in controlling pacing. The pacing delays can include, e.g., AV delays for use with biventricular cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacing. Other techniques described herein are directed to exploiting right atrial (RA) cardioelectrical events detected via an RA lead for the purposes of setting pacing delays.
