Apparatus and method for forming self-retaining sutures

An apparatus and method for forming retainers on a continuous strand such as, for example, of suture material and a suture produced by the same. The apparatus may include a retainer forming member configured to rotate about a first axis. The retainer forming member may include a cutter, the cutting edge of which may directed substantially inward toward, or outward away from, the first axis to define a retainer forming zone when the retainer forming member rotates about the first axis. The apparatus may further include a support member arranged adjacent to the retainer forming member and configured to receive and support the continuous strand in the retainer forming zone. When the retainer forming member rotates about the first axis, the passing strand may be intermittently or continuously cut by the cutting edge of the cutter.

Anti-theft method and device

ActiveUS20100085189A1Alert and prevent metal theftFencingWire networkElectrical conductorLow voltage
The invention comprises of a method and alarm device used to prevent metal theft from irrigation systems. The alarm device attaches to a plurality of electric conductor such as copper wiring that is in need of protecting and the preexisting irrigation system circuit. The alarm device detects voltage in the irrigation system circuit and if there is no voltage signals from the irrigation system circuit, then the alarm device automatically breaks the original circuit and inserts itself into the irrigation system circuit. The alarm device then sends a low voltage, low current down the plurality of electric conductors and the plurality of conductors then become part of a circuit that energizes a magnetic switch located in the alarm device. A breach of integrity of the plurality of conductors such as by physical detachment triggers an alarm condition which lead to audio and visual alarms plus activating an automated dialer.

Barbed tape

A barrier structure includes a continuous piece of elongated metal tape. The metal tape includes barbs spaced along an elongate body. Each of the barbs is connected securely to a barb root, and each barb root is connected securely to the elongate body. A first region of the elongate body is adjacent to each barb root, and a second region of the elongate body is adjacent to each first region distal from the barb root. A third region of the elongate body adjacent to each second region distal from the first region extends lengthwise from each second region and meets a corresponding third region that is extending lengthwise away from another second region. Each second region extends transversely and inwardly from the adjacent first region and the adjacent third region.

Security fence for swimming pools

A security fence for swimming pools is provided to be so positioned as to surround the water of a swimming pool. The security fence comprises fence sections which are linked to an alarm system. The fence sections are moveable between a non-signaling position and an alarm signaling position. When the fence sections are in the non-signaling position and a given fence section is engaged with sufficient force it is moved to the alarm signaling position thereby signaling the alarm. The foregoing prevents a user, such as a child, from entering the pool water when the alarm system has been activated.

Antipersonnel barrier system

ActiveUS20060214148A1Provide horizontal stabilityProvide vertical stabilityDefence devicesFencingEngineeringElectric cables
An antipersonnel barrier system is disclosed which includes at least one concertina coil and a plurality of spaced support members. Each of the support members includes a base section and a vertical section. Each of the concertina coils is secured to the support members to provide a horizontally and vertically stabilized barrier. A length limiting cable is provided to limit the length of spacing between adjacent support members. The support members can include anchoring structure for securing the support members to a support surface. In one embodiment, the concertina coils include two small diameter base coils and a top coil positioned on the base coils.

Security fence spike

The security fence spike is attached to the upper rail of a chain link security fence or the like, to project generally diametrically through a coil of razor wire or concertina wire strung along the upper rail of the fence. The security spike is a rigid metal projection, and resists collapse when a heavy sheet of material or blanket is tossed over the coiled wire atop the fence by a person(s) attempting to scale the fence. A row of spikes is preferably installed along the upper rail of the fence, threatening injury to anyone attempting to scale the fence even after covering a coil of razor wire or the like atop the fence. The security spike is formed of sheet metal bent to form a triangular cross section for rigidity and strength. The spike is attached to a brace band, which, in turn, is clamped to the fence.

Retractable barbed barrier system

A barrier system utilizing cutters that have been connected into strips, with the strips connected to form a substantially planar barrier sheet. The barrier sheet may be encased by breakable separators, which cover the cutters to prevent inadvertent injury but expose the cutters when broken upon an attempt to penetrate the barrier. The barrier may be retracted into an opening, preferably into a concealed compartment.

Method of retrofit installation of a portable swimming pool barrier fence

The installation and removal of a portable but sturdy pool barrier fence uses the hardware installed for attaching a safety pool cover during the pool use season. Multiple rectangular panel frames support a mesh fabric. Each panel has a lower horizontal frame member with a series of slots accommodating the same fastener used to attach the pool cover coupling during the off-season. Sections of fencing panels are attached together using bi-fold hinges, which permit 360 degree rotation of one panel relative to an adjacent one. This allows storage of the barrier fence as a dense rectangular three dimensional unit by folding the panels upon each other accordion-like. Sections of fencing panels are joined together to form respective fence units to form the fence around the pool.
