A mobile device includes a wireless transceiver, a host processor, a secure element (SE), and a near field communication (NFC) system having an NFC transceiver and an NFC controller implementing a contactless front end. The contactless front end routes a near field communication related to a payment transaction between the NFC system and the SE without going to or from the host processor. The contactless front end routes a near field communication not related to a payment transaction, but requiring a security function, between the NFC system and the SE without going to or from the host processor. A method for configuring a mobile communication device to perform transactions using a second communication channel that is different from a first communication channel through which the mobile communication device sends voice data. The method includes attaching a secure element to the mobile communication device. The secure element includes a memory storing an application, a processor configured to execute the application stored in the memory; and a wireless transceiver configured to send transaction data associated with the executed application through the second communication channel to a terminal that is remote from the mobile communication device.

Disclosed herein are an external device for a mobile communication terminal, which enables non-contact NFC with the outside through a Near Field Communication (NFC) unit, and an NFC method using the external device. The external device for a mobile communication terminal includes a serial communication unit, an NFC unit, a smart card unit and an antenna. The serial communication unit is connected to a mobile communication terminal body through a connector. The NFC unit communicates with the mobile communication terminal body through the serial communication unit and communicates with the outside via non-contact NFC. The smart card unit communicates with the NFC unit. The antenna is configured such that the NFC unit transmits/receives signals via non-contact NFC through the antenna.

A method and system is disclosed for allowing the sharing of one or more system resources between multiple devices. In one embodiment, a requesting device transmits a resource access request to a target device using a near-field communication (NFC) protocol. The target device responds by using the NFC connection to return a listing of resources available for sharing to the requesting device. The requesting device may select one or more of the available resources and establish an appropriate connection to access the selected resource or resources. In one embodiment, the requesting device may lack external network connectivity capabilities while the target device includes wi-fi connectivity as a shared resource. The payment device comprises a sensor to detect and log usage parameters corresponding to behaviors of the user of the payment device. A security method includes reading an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) number of a subscriber identity module (SIM) card and an identity number of a near field communication (NFC) card of the mobile phone; detecting if the IMSI number matches first data stored in memory of the mobile phone, detecting if the identity number matches second data stored in the memory, and when the IMSI number and the identity number respectively match the first and the second set of data stored in the memory, the mobile phone enables the NFC card. The security method allows a consumer to feel more secure when the NFC card is used.

An NFC device according to the present invention includes the following units. An antenna unit receives radio waves from a reader/writer by NFC. A first power source unit generates power from the radio waves. A second power source unit is a drive power source. A power-supply state holding unit holds information indicating a power-supply state of the second power source unit. An NFC unit performs NFC via the antenna unit to transmit the information indicating the power-supply state of the second power source unit. A power source switch unit switches the second power source unit to the first power source unit according to the power-supply state of the second power source unit, in order to supply power to activate at least the NFC unit and the power-supply state holding unit.

Embodiments provided herein include techniques for enabling a mobile device to communicate with smart media in a manner that can sidestep the secure element of the mobile device—and the costs associated with it. The mobile device can communicate with the smart media using near-field communication (NFC) by creating an encrypted connection with a remote computer while bypassing a secure element of the mobile device.
