Clamping screw extractor

A tool for gripping and removing mechanical fasteners such as pedicle screws. With reference to FIG. 7, the device generally resembles a screwdriver, having a handle on one end, a long shaft in the middle, and fastener engaging means on the other end. The fastener engaging means comprises a set of two or more jaws having inward facing gripping surfaces positioned to grasp the external surfaces of a screw head. The jaws are formed as part of a collet slidably mounted within an outer thread sleeve. The thread sleeve is attached to the shaft. A tapered journal on the collet interacts with a tapered bore in the thread sleeve so that when the collet is pulled into the thread sleeve, the set of two or more jaws are squeezed together. The threaded engagements between the collet and the thread sleeve should be the reverse of the thread on the screw to be removed; i.e., if a right-hand screw is to be removed then the threaded engagement between the collet and the thread sleeve should be made with a left-hand thread. In operation, the jaws are placed over the screw head and the device is rotated in a counterclockwise direction (for removal of a screw with a right-hand thread). The inward facing surfaces on the jaws bear against the bolt head, thereby impeding the rotation of the collet relative to the thread sleeve. The left-hand threaded engagement between the collet and the thread sleeve therefore pulls the collet further into the thread sleeve, whereupon the tapered bore squeezes the jaws more tightly together. Thus, the reader will appreciate, applying torque to the device when it is in position on a screw head simultaneously torques the screw head and squeezes the jaws more tightly together. The inward facing surfaces are also provided with an undercut in order to accommodate axial misalignment between the jaws and the screw head.

Feeding heads for fastening machines

A fastener feeding head (10) has fasteners (21, 121, 221) supplied to a fastener passage (15, 115, 215) aligned with a fastener engagement means (14, 114, 214) driven down the fastener passage by a drive means (13) to engage the fastener with workpieces (31, 131, 231). A charge of compressed gas is used to hold the fastener (21, 121, 221) against its engagement means (14, 114, 214).

Electric Nailing Mechanism

An electric nailing mechanism comprises a striker, an elastic member, one or two toothed bars, and a driving assembly. One end of the elastic member is fixed at one end of the striker. The toothed bars are disposed on a surface of the striker. The driving assembly comprises a screw, a drive gear wheel and one or two travel gears. The drive gear wheel is engaged with the screw and the drive gear wheel and the travel gears are coaxially connected together, so that the drive gear wheel and the travel gears can be rotated synchronously in the same direction. The travel gears are fan-shaped and are engaged with the toothed bars. By such arrangements, the driving assembly takes up a smaller space and the manufacture for the mechanism is much easier.

Wall hanger, mounting kit, and method

The wall hanger of the present invention is designed to minimize the damage done to a wall when hung thereon. The wall hanger has a plurality of narrow bores angling generally downward through which pleating pins may be inserted to anchor the wall hanger. The wall hanger additionally has a support member from which may be hung an object. The bores and support member are configured to maximize a proportion of gravitational stress transferred to the wall to relieve stress on the pins. A pilot tool is also disclosed that starts a hole in the wall through the bores in the hanger and then is used to push a pin through the bore, into the pretapped hole in the wall, and further into the wall until its head is flush with the hanger. A kit is provided that consists of a wall hanger and a mounting tool. In addition, a method is provided for mounting a wall hanger to a wall.

A fastener installation tool and related method are provided for installing fasteners in boards, where the boards are installed immediately adjacent one another, without a gap established therebetween. The tool can include an alignment projection that projects a preselected distance downwardly from a lower surface of the tool. The alignment projection can be disposed between opposing corners of first and second boards to install a fastener without establishing a gap between the boards. This construction can be suitable for installing boards constructed from materials that shrink over time, such as wet, treated lumber or other materials, and even non-shrinkable boards where tighter spacing is desired. A related method of installation is provided.

Magazine assembly for fastening tool

A magazine assembly for a fastening tool. The magazine assembly slides on guide posts that are formed into the nose assembly of the fastening tool and is clamped to the fastening tool via a magazine clamp assembly that requires no tools to operate. The magazine clamp assembly may be partially released to permit the magazine assembly to be partially withdrawn from the nose assembly so that the nose assembly may be maintained without the complete removal of the magazine assembly. The construction of the nose assembly is such that when the magazine assembly is placed in a partially withdrawn state, a portion of the nose assembly mechanically inhibits actuation of the fastening tool trigger system.
